Why would you take away the French Open?
You wouldnt. His point is Nadal was far better than most on clay but overall well behind the other top players on hard surfaces. While novak, federer, sampras were the opposite (like most of the top players).

Bar clay, which is obviously quite an outlier in tennis always has been, Djokovic is unequaled on hard courts

We are talking about the context of GOAT.

Rod Laver won the calendar Slam (AU, FR, WB, US) in 1962 & 1969. No male player has ever won the calendar slam since.

Best all round tennis GOAT - Rod Laver.

Djokvic has been dominant for 12yrs. And won SLAMS over a period of 15yrs. That includes 2 x French opens.
He also competed against two of the other best ever players in Nedal and Federer.

Laver was dominant for 5yrs. Won Slams in 1960-1962 then in 1968 and 1969. A total of 11. He was also 5ft 8. Imo he wouldn't take a set of Novak let alone beat him in a grand slam final. He played in an era when there was far less competition.

It's like Leyton Hewitt. He popped up when the top guns where fading and the new crop hadn't surfaced properly.
I reckon the Scu and Rafter where better players but just around when you had Agassi and Sampras in peak of career.

If Djokovic was as good as you say, then he'd have won a calendar slam. Djokovic's first slam final appearance was 2007.

Crickets in the French. Not good enough merkin. Flat track bully.

That's like suggesting someone who has a great 4yrs in the NRL is better then someone who is in the top 2 players for 15yrs.

Plus look at opponents. Novak had to compete with 2 other guys who will go down in the top 5 players ever.

Obviously you are failing to acknowledge, or perhaps ignoring, the immensely difficult task of winning the 4 slams in one year. Djokovic is one of the few players who won 4 slams consecutively (spanning 2 calendar years) but never won 4 in the same year. I am not discounting his efforts, but clearly to be declared a GOAT, you need to win on all surfaces.

There is a golden slam actually, which includes 4 slams and the Olympic Gold medal in the same year. Only Steffi Graf has done that. How impressive is that ?

No I am not. 4 in a row or 4 in a calendar year is kind of the same tbh. And it means nothing. Being at the top for longer period, amount of slams, opponents.
Novak's easiest the GOAT
