I think by and large the end beneficiary of TikTok is in for data for the same reason as the Zucker-Borg and Lizard Man and whatever the f**k Bezos is. But there is more likely a greater number of people along the journey of the TikTok data who are in it for more nefarious reasons. If TikTok wasn’t Chinese-owned it would be no more of a threat than any other platform.
No there are probably others drinking the kool aid.

Well we can't be all drinking the Kool aid, can we ? Maybe we are and we need Guru more than ever.Is the kool aid the common denominator here?

Not sure how old Laws is now, but he sounded like he was 100. Does anyone actually listen to 2SM ?Not sure I agreed with much of what Guru said but I thought he handled himself very well and was extremely polite.
He was hardly destroyed by Laws, in fact it was Laws who was throwing the insults out which is a sure sign he was losing the discussion.

Plenty of Chinese investment in our country is bad for security. Great for the economy though. How could I be ignoring the Chinese state when I was the one who raised Huawei ?
Interested in your views on the 99 year lease of the Port of Darwin and the declassified FIRB minutes.
Did Scott Morrison have 'no authority' to approve or reject the lease of the Port of Darwin?
Prime Minister Scott Morrison says the government had "no authority" to approve or reject the lease of the Port of Darwin to a Chinese company in 2015. Is that correct? RMIT ABC Fact Check investigates.www.abc.net.au
They should, and now merkins can’t hide behind “It’s only because users made fun of Trump!”Meanwhile, the threat to critical infrastructure is being dealt with.
Australia Becomes Latest to Deem Chinese-Made Surveillance Cameras a Security Concern
The U.S. and U.K. have similarly previously banned surveillance technology created by Chinese firms amid national security concernstime.com
If TikTok is a significant risk as they say, then they should ban it.
No they don’t need to muddy the waters by drawing an equivalence between TikTok and US-owned platforms. Treat each threat on its own merits, not just lump them together because that’s how the typical dopey punter thinks of them.If governments are banning TikTok, why is it still on your corporate devices?
When lawmakers and higher education take steps to prevent official users from accessing the popular video-sharing app on their devices, corporations should sit up and take notice.www.csoonline.com
Mind you, they should also demonstrate to the punters that similar data cannot be obtained from the other big data players by the bad guys, otherwise the whole process is just for show, geopolitical argy-bargy.
Yep. ML killed security through obscurity. My industry posited years ago that security by anonymity is dead and people need to essentially get used to security by inconvenience.

You dodged that one.Plenty of Chinese investment in our country is bad for security. Great for the economy though.
The kind of investment China performs overseas but doesn’t allow at home.
You dodged that one.
Dodged what? The port lease was a terrible idea. Nearly as bad as the Victorian government’s belt and road deal. Divide and conquer. You dodged that one.
