If TikTok wasn’t Chinese-owned it would be no more of a threat than any other platform.

I think by and large the end beneficiary of TikTok is in for data for the same reason as the Zucker-Borg and Lizard Man and whatever the f**k Bezos is. But there is more likely a greater number of people along the journey of the TikTok data who are in it for more nefarious reasons.
But also at the end of the day, those people are going to be looking for that data across multiple platforms.
My industry posited years ago that security by anonymity is dead and people need to essentially get used to security by inconvenience.

Mind you, they should also demonstrate to the punters that similar data cannot be obtained from the other big data players by the bad guys, otherwise the whole process is just for show, geopolitical argy-bargy.

No they don’t need to muddy the waters by drawing an equivalence between TikTok and US-owned platforms. Treat each threat on its own merits, not just lump them together because that’s how the typical dopey punter thinks of them.
