Have used both over the years. Prefer PCs/Windows tablets now, because I use them at work and they're familiar. If my work used Apples, then I'd probably prefer Mac laptops/iPads etc for home too.

If you already prefer iPhones, iPads and your kids are on the Macbooks, then it makes sense to go the whole hog and dive into the Apple ecosystem with your next purchase.

Upgrading the desktop at home. My kids have convinced me to buy an IMac and not a PC. They recently converted their laptops to Apple Notebooks and have not looked back. Any long term Mac users here or people that have recently switched? I do use an IPhone and would never consider getting an android. Work has also now fully switched from Blackberries to iPhones. It's never been better IMHO. I also prefer iPads to android tablets.

Thoughts ?
I bought a notebook a couple of years ago and would never ever go back.

Still have my PC which i barely ever use.

I've been a Mac user for years. It suits my needs on the media side of things. I use it for recording music I write and editing movies. However I would find it hard to do certain work without office. You can get Mac compatible office but I have heard there can be problems with it but I haven't used it to confirm. What I have is a MacBook Pro with Windows parralell program. So with a simple swipe on the mouse pad I can switch between Windows and Mac. Like people have said though it comes down to what your personal preferences are and maybe not whether one is better than the other. I hate android phones I have one for work and it annoys me I find it harder to use them my iPhone. However a lot of my friends find iPhones difficult to use.

I use both a pc notebook and a MacBook Air. There are positives and negatives for both. The Mac is faster and doesn't pick up as much rubbish from the web but its file system is nothing on Windows. Windows seems to have more flexibility and most software seems to come out for pc first.

I use MS Office for Mac and haven't had an issue.

The MacBook Air is very light and easy to lug around and charges very quickly.

When you price compare mac and windows based on specs, you can't really justify the extra 30 or 40 % you have to pay for apple.

Apple users do so based on other reasons than product performance. They base their purchase decisions on the image that their marketing has created IMHO.

EDIT: My son has a mac book because music software he uses is only available on mac. He tells me that he's partitioned the HD (or runs an emulator, dunno really) and installed windows 10 on it because the mac OS shits him as it is too controlling. Whatever that means.

I'm about to change from iPhone to an Android... at least I think I am.... I'm pretty sure I will go down that path. Just trying to decide what sort of phone I want and whether a HTC or Samsung will prove better value on a $55-$65 per month plan compared to what sort of iPhone Optus and Telstra have on those priced plans...

Can't say I've ever really had an issue with the whole iPhone OS and handset, just thinking that for what I use it for, I've no need to be locked in to an iOS device

Yeah I know what he means. Apple tries to force you to use Apple products.
Microsoft is much more welcoming of third party products.

From what I know about partitioning disks, he has basically chopped the volume in half or quarters etc so that he can run separate OS' on the one device... He has done this because he finds the Apple OS too rigid and constricting. What it means is, he is trying to tell you that if you try and control him in his personal life he may well take to you in a similar manner and you should not mess with him. You feel me??

Without a doubt he wants his independence and privacy. I got no problem with that. I think.

I'm an Android and Windows user.

I hate systems which lock you into their ecosystem like Apple and Sony in yesteryear.

I have an i7 notebook 8gb ram with 250Gb SSD and it is superfast and love it.

Even with Android I've noticed that Samsung add bloatware and are slow with the marshmallow update (my S5 is still running kitkat). Next phone I will be getting is pure android (Nexus).

BTW I have noticed that windows 10 is behaving a tad recalcitrant. I like using Foxit Pro pdf viewer and it refuses to allow me to change it as the default pdf viewer. :?

With android there are alot of custom roms.

When there are no more updates from the company, flash it with a custom rom.

My note 1 survived an extra 2 years running a more efficient custom rom.

I have upgraded now.

But I was more referring to hardware and itunes and stuff. I can charge with any one of many micro usb cables lying around

I just use whatever phone/laptop work gives me.

Well La Di Da! Look at you all employed and important!!

What about the rest of us bums that don't have a job and who aren't sure where our next meal might come from and who don't necessarily pay our bills until the 3rd or 4th overdue notice... we still like to have a choice which smartphone we want to use!!
