Just what we need. Another bonehead ex-footballer in politics.

One of my nephews came out and advised the family he is gay. I feel for his immediate family. Traditional Euro type. Doing it tough. Old fashioned etc. I always suspected it. He is a charming and smart young man. I couldn't care less. Makes no difference to my immediate family or I. He is a great young man. Took plenty of guts as he was battling coming out for years. Apparently he knew when he was in Primary School. Went through some dark times. Thoughts of suicide etc.

Unfortunately, small time independents like Lazo will be a thing of the past if the Libs, Xenaphon and Greens get their way with the proposed senate changes.

Yes I know that legislation has been hard to get through the current upper house, but imagine if Abbott had control of the senate when he was captain. We'd have a hybrid medicare, $100k uni degrees, etc etc

Has anyone read Chrissie Foster's book "Hell on the way to heaven"??? It's an absolutely harrowing account of the suffering 1 family has been through and will forever go through courtesy of the catholic church and its hierarchy in this country - and Pell was at the top of the tree as the events and investigations were unfolding. His insulting indifference at the family's plight makes your blood boil when you read their account. 2 of their 3 daughters now deceased and the surviving daughter now living with brain damage and physical disabilities, all due to a chain of events triggered by the actions of pedo priests and those who protected them.

Merkins didn't elect Lazo thinking that he was anyone other than an honest Joe who would keep the bastards honest.

I'm not suggesting he isn't trying, I'm just suggesting he is not particularly good.

He thinks he is keeping the bastards honest and taking on worthwhile causes but on a number of issues he is ill informed.

That's the wonderful thing about the senate ATM. It may have it's flaws but the diversity it currently offers ensures that one dominant party can't dictate policy without consultation.

Soon I fear that merkins will have the "mandate" to do whatever the f**k they want.
