In the military they haze everyone. It is non-discriminatory and used to show comfort with each other.

I'd say you have no idea about military culture. Your opinion comes from movies and TV. In the arms corps at least, sexual harassment is what blokes do to each other. There is also the need to buy into group identity such that people can be shamed into doing the dirty or dangerous jobs rather than (for example) feigning injury or illness. Without this loyalty to one's mates it's all too easy to leave those tasks for someone else. And that's when it all breaks down.

As for 'institutionalised homophobia' you smug, ignorant f**k, I knew four gay soldiers when I was in the army and only one of them was bullied. And that was because he was a selfish, unhelpful merkin, not because he was gay.

No that's probably worse, because of all the merkins missing out. Young blokes on operations are already trying to deal with the feeling of watching their best years slip away. Having others rub their noses in it isn't helpful.
