Greetings from Pittsburgh. Today in the hallway of my apartment there were two guys literally training in the hallway doing that between the legs passing from behind NFL style. Both had Steelers gear on. I walked past and acknowledged them. One of them asked me, "Are you Aussie?" I said "Yes.." He said,"I am too, I'm from Melbourne. We shook hands and spoke for a while. Turns out he is Jordan Berry the punter for the Steelers. Really nice young man. He kicked to Hayne during last season. Hayne caught his kicks. Reckons it will be tough to make it under the new coach. The other guy was Matt Dooley also in the Steelers squad. Very nice too. I asked them to pardon my ignorance and asked for a photo. They obliged. They are both giants. I felt like a midget.

Last time I was in the states, my mate and caught the subway in NY probably around 8-9pm. There was hardly anyone on the carriage. Then these 2 huge african american guys sat on either side of us. We were packing shite.

We bolted off the next stop.

The other 2 fellas must've been laughing their heads off.

Not to be that guy, but it's called snapping. i.e. to "snap" the ball.

Awesome story, very cool not only to meet some NFL players, but an Aussie on top of that.

Thanks Ash. No idea about NFL. Did you know about these two players. Apparently they play on special teams. How much would they be on?

I knew the Steelers punter was an Aussie, they made a big deal of it last year when the 49ers played them.

A good punter in the NFL would be on easily 7 figures a year. I'm by no means anywhere knowledgeable on that part of the NFL, Korny would know more than me for sure.

But the other guy, not sure, quick google-fu tells me he's training as a long snapper, so his job is to snap the ball to the punter, or the guy holding the ball for the kicker (they hold the ball on the ground for a place kick) They are specialised because Long Snapping is important to get right, for obvious reasons. They have to be able to snap (under legs pass) the ball quickly and accurately over long distances, sometimes could be close to 10 metres or more. He seems relatively new, so might not be on a lot of coin, but he'd still be making more than 99% of the NRL easily.
