You know the saddest part, a lot of americans see this happening, and still grip on to their gun laws tightly.

To the point where they say that the guns aren't to blame, that it's a mental health issue, even when they are shown compelling evidence that gun control works, they stay completely in denial about it.

Their answer? More guns. Something is very wrong with that country.

You wonder what it will take before gun control is taken more seriously by everyone. I'm not sure that it ever will.

For comparison it would be interesting to see how many shootings there were in Australia that day. I reckon it could be higher than people think.

After having a few discussions with some americans on both sides of the debate, it looks like it will take generations for anything to happen, if at all.

Public opinion on guns needs to change over there, the feel of reliance and entitlement needs to be bred out of them.

Those who argue for guns hide behind the 2nd amendment, which is a hundreds of years law that has no relevance today, the fact that a citizen militia could rise up against the US government is laughable, regardless of whether they were being oppressive or not. They seem to forget that ground wars aren't really the done thing anymore. Should a fight like this occur, it will be missiles, drone strikes and jets, not soldiers, and even if there are soldiers, they'll be infinitely better trained and much more well armed than Jed with his shotgun.

You know there are plenty of people who don't like guns over there too right? My Twitter and other social media feeds are nothing but against guns and calling for their country to change the gun laws.

Maybe you need to follow normal people and not rednecks on social media?

Seems like every day we hear of a shooting somewhere in this country. There are 24 million people here and 320 million over there too.

Yep, but after controlling for population, the rate of gun-related deaths in the US is about 10 times higher than here (give or take...depends on the specific measure used). The UK is only about 25% of our rate.

I was more referring to shootings, not deaths specifically. There are plenty of shootings here is all and I always seem surprised every time I hear of one which seems daily at this point.

Its a vicious circle over there

the gun lobby and gun manufacturers help finance a lot of political parties and they have a huge influence

money talks

I did say a lot, not all Korny.

I've spoken to a lot that are anti-gun as well, but they are well in the minority over there. mostly younger people.

You are talking to people on Xbox who are playing first person shooter games, the demographic you talk to aren't really a great sample size of all of America.

Donald Trump said:
“If you had some guns in that club the night that this took place, if you had guns on the other side, you wouldn’t have had the tragedy that you had. If people in that room had guns with the bullets flying in the opposite direction right at him... right at his head, you wouldn’t have had the same tragedy that you ended up having,” Trump said on CNN Monday morning, ignoring the CNN anchor’s point that there was, in fact, an armed off-duty police officer at the club at the time of the shooting.

What makes you think that? That's not who I'm referring to. In fact I rarely talk to americans on xbox.
