Sad situation, I've enjoyed reading his columns over many many years.SMH journo Sam de Brito has died, aged 46:

I liked his work. Poor buggers.
Yes, and thanks for the weblinks containing dubious agenda driven intepretations....Is this a serious post?
Actually it is also opposing... if you click on the home page link at the top right of the page you provided, it should become clear that you were mistaken/had been misled by the (sarcastic?) domain name.http://www.thereligionofpeace.com/quran/023-violence.htm
Here you will note the references to killing infidels 'wherever they hide', and to do things like chop of heads (etc) - and please note that this page is promoting Islam (the previous one was opposing)
You don't say! Exactly my point about the diversity within any religion, from moderates through to extremists - why automatically gravitate to a lazy (bigoted?) stereotype of all XXX are XXX? The world is of course never that black and white. Now of course there are arguments about issues regarding interpretation - the Muslims themselves have been arguing about that for hundreds of years
I suppose so, given I had asked for direct quotes from the Quran indicating "terrorism is part of their faith" as Twizzle had erroneously claimed, and you've come up blank.I suppose technically you might be right, and the word 'terrorism' might not appear in the Quran.....
we have 33,000 members, do the maths again

Thanks for the enlightening contribution, we should do this again sometime...
So you basically agree the Quran has loads of references to holy war, cutting off hands and heads, martrydom for the sake of Allah (etc). Like Twizz said....
So they sent twelve thousand warriors to Jabesh-gilead with orders to kill everyone there, including women and children. "This is what you are to do," they said. "Completely destroy all the males and every woman who is not a virgin." Among the residents of Jabesh-gilead they found four hundred young virgins who had never slept with a man, and they brought them to the camp at Shiloh in the land of Canaan.
They are the nasty bits to which I referred, however if you also read the bible you will find extracts that are equally nasty but the catholic church chooses not to preach those bits.
Islam on the other hand.....................
You are comparing one religious denomination and political institution within the broader Christianity, to the entire Islamic faith. And yep, there certainly are some (perhaps many) Islamic leaders who preach the nasty stuff.....and there are plenty who don't. If you, say, were to examine the behaviour of a very small minority of priests (both protestant and Catholic) during the Troubles in Ireland and Northern Ireland, it would not make for very edifying reading. And yeh, it's not same as Jihadi stuff, coz the matter at hand is different, the extent of the violence is certainly very different, but putting all of Islam in one bucket because of the evil nutcase zealot side is curious.
To be honest Baz, its their treatment of women that offends me more due to my personal experiences.
These are quiet law abiding families in Australia, peaceful people. One family I know where the father has disowned his daughter and has not spoken to her for years and they live in the same house and all because she wont dress in black like her mum.
Faith before family. Really should be the other way around imo.

Sure. I've seen (at a distance) some pretty poor cases like you describe. But, again, it isn't universal. One colleague and one former colleague (both Muslims*) are completely dominated by their wives (in a nice way)...they're just decent people with occasionally funny dress sense.
*one does like his Shiraz, but argues that because he's from Iran, and the city of Shiraz is in Iran that he duty bound to drink it sometimes.
yoinreally don't like people having different opinions to you do you?
Police have released images of some bogans out west involved in an assault and robbery on the train. One merkin is wearing a Parra singlet. Merkins!
Well it wasn't morgs. He got away.
No, I'm saying that there are no quotes in the Quran (like Twiz claimed) that say "terrorism is part of their faith". Like any text, it's all down to interpretation and how/whether the nasty bits are preached...So you basically agree the Quran has loads of references to holy war, cutting off hands and heads, martrydom for the sake of Allah (etc). Like Twizz said....
And there's the massive generalisation/stereotype. Not giving Islam the same credit as Christianity for having moderates (who like the Catholic Church don't preech the nasty bits) and extremists (also like Christianity). They are the nasty bits to which I referred, however if you also read the bible you will find extracts that are equally nasty but the catholic church chooses not to preach those bits.
