I just saw on channell 9 news that El Masri is pleading not guilty - his lawyer (chris murphy) basically told the court the wife is a basketcase who needs medical help

So she's lied before about this stuff, needs medical help but Elmasri is still with her and married?

Seems legit.......

No one likes domestic violence but to be accused of it if it didn't happen can hurt a person and destroy their reputation in a breath.

He may be innocent but it is very confusing that they attack his current wife so badly and the way they're talking is that she has been psychotic for a long time, so that being said why is he married to her still?????

This Chris Murphy sounds like a took as well!

In regards to the forthcoming plebiscite on same-sex marriage...opinion polls tend to lean artificially to the left.

As mentioned above, when asked to publicly voice an opinion (on any social cause) people tend to state that they are more progressive than they really are due to, as mentioned above, negative social stigma for those who are not seen as progressive.

It's well known that the left are more vocal on issues, that conservatives tend to keep their opinions more personal, and that progressives are more aggressive in how they respond to conservatives than vice-versa (in the general public, that is. Very public conservatives are just as filled with bile and hate as the public progressives).

So, yes, the vote will be closer than the 60-70% in favour that opinion polls state.

Still, I think it will pass.

So, let's forget the particular individuals involved in this case. And consider a hypothetical case were the facts are similar to what was suggested yesterday.

maybe a husband in a situation like this one loves his wife, and appreciates that her behaviour derives from a mental illness that she doesn't have full control over, and has (at least til now) wanted to support her? The wife could be 'in treatment', what sort of a husband would say 'fair enough, but I'm off to greener pastures with a 'normal person'? Again, I'm not commenting directly on the current case, coz we just don't know.

The only thing I really know about El Masri is that he was a shit hot goal kicker. If I was to say much more than this then it would be pure speculation.

So the best legal case is to go in and paint said partner in the most insane light as possible? It is now in public, do you think that is the best way to approach someone who is apparently severely psychotic? The pressure on her now is greater than it ever was.

To me they came out to attack her character, if you love someone and what to help them as you are proposing surely you'd ask your legal counsel to ease up a bit?

Like I said, he may very well have done nothing to her but the comments in the court yesterday were over the top and that of someone trying to destroy someone rather than help imo.

Agreed. If the male has found himself in a situation where his partner is unwell and wrongly accuses him of DV whilst in a psychotic episode, it seems odd to tear her apart in public.

As I've said 4 times now, none of us knows what has actually happened yet. I was careful to point out that I was commenting on a hypothetical case. And I was answering your question about why a husband might stay with his wife.

People seem to want to be very quick to judge on the basis of, well, not much.

Murphy is without doubt a f**kwit of the highest order.

I just think the whole thing is weird. That is the judgement I'm making. I have no idea what happened.

I assume that is Chris Murphy ? He pretty much sacked the dude as his client within 5 mins of meeting him.

Basically Chris took him on as a client one morning before a court hearing ( the houda dude introduced him) and told him not to speak to the media as they were leaving the court house. He did, Murphy immediately sacked him as a client.
