No need to do that if you purchase an extended new car warranty around the time of purchasing the new or as new car.
Up to 2005 we were buying all our extended new car warranties from Esanda via a broker operating out of Peter Warren (Ford or whatever) @ Warwick Farm - always done over the phone.
One example of many.
I purchased a 99 Subaru Outback Limited series that was 3 months old with 12k on the meter (saved almost $20k vs new car - let someone else pay the outrageous stamp duty etc). When the new car warranty ran out 3 years or so later the auto transmission failed and we took it to a bloke we knew at Botany/Waterloo on Botany Road who quoted around $4k to overhaul/recondition it. Going new was mega mega expensive.
Fortunately the Esanda extended car warranty covered all costs and it still works today.
The reason why we've never serviced any auto transmission on any car since is because the Botany Road bloke told me to never use cruise control because they wreck the auto transmission and to regularly check the oil and replace/clean it when required. Ever since, we've never used cruise control.
Now waiting for "Tweezer-Dick" to post another crass comment.............
Mate, cruise control does nothing bad to a transmission. In fact, it should remove moronic driving behaviour of the dick behind the wheel. If you service the tranny at manufacturers intervals and don't drive like an idiot the tranny should last like any other component.
