I'm thinking of buying land and building a house out of shipping containers.
There is a Grand Design episode on one that a builder did in Melbourne. Have you seen it?

Laugh it up buddy. Just like you did 18 months ago. Proven wrong again. No I wouldn't be buying anything now but when we spoke about it in 2013 it was a great time and I was proven correct. How did your shares go?
How come you're back? Have you missed us?
And I'm still laughing. If you don't have the balls to sell you've gained nothing. Equity? Maybe you can use it to borrow a bit more - it's a good time to buy shares. Maybe in 18 months you'll have some more good luck to brag about. Or maybe whoever buys your flat will be doing the bragging.

That's a pretty hefty abstraction charge. Even here it is less than $300.
Can you mountain bike down from Kosciusko summit ? If so can some merkin transport your bike to the top or do you have to ride/carry it ?
You have to ride/carry it. It's a pretty easy trail from the top of Thredbo Top Station Chairlift tbh, though I wouldn't recommend it at this time of year.![]()
It's only about the last km that gets a bit steep. There's a couple of short steep sections in between, but the track is excellent, and very crowded in Summer.
Alternatively, you can ride from Charlotte Pass, although it's a lot longer., but still reasonably easy.

Thanks. I might do that in the summer. When I was last in Bali we rode from the top of an active (yes really has active lava fields) volcano called Mt Batur all the way down to Ubud on jungle trails and through rice paddies. Mostly down hill which is good for kids and old Dads.
Yeh mate, it's a beautiful part of the world in summer. Far more to do down there then than in winter.
We've had a place there for over 20 years, and still, we do and see things each summer that we haven't done or seen before.
Hiking, both easy and hard, is fantastic, and we also spend a lot of our time just swimming in the lake. The water is beautifully comfortable in January.
In fact, one summer we spent a week there, and a week in Port Macquarie, and the water was far warmer in Lake Jindabyne than at Port. No kidding. Not many people know that, so keep it to yourself.

I stay at a friend's place in Kalkite. Like it in both Winter and Summer. Going there in 3 weeks. Isn't there a city under Lake Jindabyne?
