What does the Friday 8pm game ave on Fox? I think you will see that the monday game has not had an effect on the overall tv ratings for the week.

Currently the NRL ratings are slightly ahead of the same time last year.

After round 2 Foxtels share of Ratings has increased from 237k rnd 2 2016 to 253k ave rnd 2 2017.

The TV deal starts in 2018 but they payed extra so parts of the contract starts this year.

So MNF used to get 300-350k per week on Fox.. and average about 12k crowds

FNF @6pm... averages 150-200k and on fox and gets crowds of about 9k..

And it has devalued out FTA rights, by keeping that 200k tied to fox all fri night, instead of a choice to go to 9..

This is a gigantic f**k up all round by NRL.. and 2 Sydney games to come.. in the wet

it's because of the way the deal was done and Smith going rogue

they can't play footy 5 days a week like last year as it has too many clubs doing short turnarounds so Monday had to be shifted to Friday because of the introduction of Thursday games

Or they could have shifted it to 6pm Sunday? Or they could have made fox simulcast two games on a Saturday as part of the deal to get the fta Saturday game back.

I'd love to know what smith had up his sleeve, he clearly was feeling the game was in a very strong position to hold fox over a barrel, hence Murdochs hissy fit and the decision to do the deal with fta first and not as part of an overall agreement.

Fox would bleed badly without nrl, if nrl had a realisitc alternative I guess we will never know.

What we do know is fox and Telstra got another sweet deal with everything they wanted yet paid less than for it than they paid for afl.
