The doubters are f**king idiots mate. We're a chance of losing on Friday. That's just a fact, and winning won't mean we were no chance of losing. Putting everything on one game is just dumb. Four years worth of games is a better measure of the coach than the results of week two or three of the finals.
You don’t think this would be a huge missed opportunity to make the grand final if we lost? We could have hardly asked for a better draw. Our biggest threats in the Roosters,Panthers, Storm and Rabbitohs are bundled out or on the opposite side of the draw. Penrith were a chance of losing to the Storm in week 3 last season. Do you not think Cleary would have been under immense pressure if he’d lost despite enjoying more success than us in recent times? At some point when the opportunity presents itself you have to get it done.

Problem here as mentioned before by someone else, you would eventually have the majority of the Australian side picked from outside of the origin players, picked from club footy only. Is that how we should evolve ?
Why would they be picked from Origin players? Origin happened 6 months prior. A lot of the players picked on Kangaroo Tours came from Finals form.

I agree with Kent with this eligibility garbage.

If you want to play for Samoa or Tonga that's fine you just can't play origin.

A line needs to be drawn.

If you want to play origin the requirement is you also have to play for Australia.
I think it's better for the international game (and for Origin) if merkins who are eligible for Origin and another country are allowed to play for both teams.

The issue he was forced to make a choice. Why should he have to choose? Why can't they be considered separately?
At the moment a player who is born in New Zealand, can choose to play for Qld, then choose to play for Australia, then choose to play for Qld again, then choose to play for Samoa. It’s a joke.

Papalii, To’o, Luai et al can still strengthen those tier 2 nations by electing to play for them instead. They just want the origin $$ too.
It’s a false equivalence because those tier 2 nations don’t play anywhere near as regularly. I also think it’s important to not force players to make the choice of playing for a minnow or origin. Let them have both for the betterment of the game.

Yeah I agree on that part

So I'd change the rule and let you play Origin for whoever you're currently eligible for, and for NZ, Samoa, etc. if you're eligible for them to. However, once you pick a country and play for them, then that is your country forever.

Sure. If they can identify with both teams. That’s a separate argument right now anyway. The reason that they’re allowing non Australian representative players to play origin is to strengthen tier 2 nations.
Who are now arguably stronger than the tier 1 nations. Samoa and Tonga are probably tier 1 at this point.

It will deminish one or the other

If u make it if u play soo and u cant play for your heritage country then theres really no point having a world cup. Just a tri nation between englsnd, nz and oz

Then soo will be stroong. But players like moses, duelli etc wont represemt lebnon

This way the world cup will now have strong competition and if u restrict these players to play soo, soo will be weak.

If push came to shove, i reckom alot of the Polynesian boys will stick together and sit out soo.

Then soo will be a super country vs origin

This is sport and entertainment not going to war
You should actually be banned from playing for Australia if you're eligible for any other team. That will even out the international game.

It is a joke. They should have to stick with their initial choice. But that is separate from their Origin eligibility, where they should also stick with their initial choice, if they happen to be eligible for both states.
