Dont watch it anymore but there is article on fox sports claiming we will be the next broncos bumbling towards the bottom because we have no footy IQ in the joint.
That's because they cobble together quotes from shows like this. I watched it and there was discussion along those lines but the article is overblown. As I find it usually is when produced that way.Dont watch it anymore but there is article on fox sports claiming we will be the next broncos bumbling towards the bottom because we have no footy IQ in the joint.
I was surprised by the direct quote. Also that we have 5 on the committee but I don't see it necessarily as the problem they suggested. The main problem is we aren't winning. When Paul Crawley directly quoted BA when he asked him, “Who are you getting to get to replace Jennings?” And BA replied, “I don’t know, ask Mark O’Neill.”
That’s not a good look. I’ve known for ages that they don’t get along. My info is that Arthur wants certain players to recruit and retain and it’s always higher than Mark O’Neill. MON is obviously more fiscally responsible.
Didn’t know we had a 5 person committee for recruitment though. They said that on NRL360.
I think all that stuff above is exaggerated. Steve Mortimer and Warren Ryan didn’t get on but won comps together. Means jack shit and happens all the time.I was surprised by the direct quote. I knew this and never watch any of these shows. I get all my info from articles you merkins post and commentary during games.Didn’t know we had a 5 person committee for recruitment though. They said that on NRL360.
It's great click bait and little more.I think all that stuff above is exaggerated. Steve Mortimer and Warren Ryan didn’t get on but won comps together. Means jack shit and happens all the time.
Everything they said sounds feasible. As for whom to blame when they miss out on Staggs and Gagai, blame the clubs they signed with who probably paid too much.
I agree with whoever is saying our roster isn't elite ..... its not ..... we have good solid options across the park - but nothing elite at all ...... it rates us exactly where we are at the moment - borderline top 4
Agree .... development is important ....... but also some are created elitePlayers arent created elite. They are developed into the so called elite. Ffs Melbs Hughes wasnt even a halfback. He was a 3rd string fullback.
Then there's the other discussion that elite players like Matterson are no longer elite.
Then theres Ice who is being worked to a standstill and losing effectiveness.
Sadly we arent very good at developing talent.
well yeah - bordline top 4 isn't far off ....... but I agree with Kent - the better teams have an elite player or 2, not just solid quality .... but elite players aren't easy to come by (unless you have deep pockets like some clubs)Our team isn’t elite but not far off. You have to ask the question thou, how many halves are there in the nrl that have one try assist? I’m not sure our play makers are enhancing their game. At this point in time, Drown is probably better off going to most other clubs to improve or fulfill his career. The tigers pairing are doing better than him. Why?
He's still not elite. He's about as good as Gutherson.Players arent created elite. They are developed into the so called elite. Ffs Melbs Hughes wasnt even a halfback. He was a 3rd string fullback.
A 27 year old who's never played Origin isn't elite. Then there's the other discussion that elite players like Matterson are no longer elite.
Losing effectiveness from being among the best forwards (surprisingly too) in the NRL. Inconsistency is a problem that plagues all young players. Your mate Jahrome Hughes is 27 years old, and has only finally become a player clubs have wanted to poach. By the age of 24 he had played a total of 17 NRL games, yet merkins want to write off Dylan Brown at 21. They were writing off Reed Mahoney last year at 22. You're criticising Papali'i because he hasn't been able to maintain elite form in the f**king forwards when still shy of his 23rd birthday. Young players struggle with consistency. Then theres Ice who is being worked to a standstill and losing effectiveness.
We certainly aren't good at being patient.Sadly we arent very good at developing talent.
Is it a coincidence that probably our 4 best ever juniors were part of Jack Gibsons tenure? Sterling, Kenny, Ella, Grothe. I watched these guys come through the lower grades as I watched many others just as good who never reached the level of "elite" post Gibsons departure. Why is that?Agree .... development is important ....... but also some are created elite
Matto was never elite ..... he is just another good player.
Agree on Papa .... I wish we'd put him back on the bench and use him as impact. But now we have injuries and not enough depth to cover
Ive been 35 years worth of patient. He's still not elite. He's about as good as Gutherson.

Yes.Are the players really the problem?
