NRL acts on player burnout

Gallop and that News Ltd Policy Committee have to be open and up front for a change to the clubs and the paying public.
How much is being removed from the games coffers to repay the so called debt owed to News Ltd?
How much in dollar figures is the so called "contra" deal entered into for tv and advertising costing clubs...the cry that clubs cannot afford a bigger squad and bigger cap is plain lies if tens of millions a year is being siphoned out of the game into a 3rd parties pocket!
It is the players, the clubs and the paying public that generate the vast revenues for league..that money does not belong to News it belongs back in the game in an open and accountable manner!

Why not give the players playing in the ANZAC test the weekend before off? Those players play three matches in two rounds - ridiculous so early in the season!

Plus it would improve the test match, and maybe give NZ a chance of competing.

Why is Buderus named as the most "courageous" player in the game? LMAO what a load of monkey crap.

Courageous is Allan Tongue's middle name.

Having origin on its own weekend doesn't rest the Origin players...they play the same amount of games as any other player at the moment. They take the week before off. Pointless.

I think the point of that argument was that players playing in an Origin game are backing up 2-4 days later for their club. After a game as physical and tiring as Origin, if you're uninjured, more times than not, you'll be playing another game within a couple of days.

The way i've read it we'll see it this way:

During the Test/Origin period - this year that was Round 6 to Round 16 - we'll see byes for teams on the weekend before and the weekend after Origin. So that could mean we have 8 weekends where 4 teams have the bye... or given the Anzac Test weekend is really just 1 weekend that is impacted (Friday night game) then maybe 8 teams have the bye that weekend and then on the 6 weekends that sandwich Origin Games - we have 4 teams off each weekend (with 16 teams that means there will be 32 byes in total).

The other option I thought of was to have 4 weekends with byes like we have now (Anzac Test Weekend and weekends preceeding Origin games) but on each weekend 8 teams have the bye.

That would mean only 4 games on each weekend (5 for the Anzac Test weekend with the Test on Friday Night) covering your staple days - Fri Night, Sat Night, Sun Arvo, Mon Night - meaning tv still gets their big games and the fans will get football. Sure you could argue 8 teams is a lot having the weekend off but if the draw is even going to be remotely fair you need a lot of teams off each weekend to limit the number of teams without their star players on origin duty.

Byes should mainly happen after Origin, as players who get picked for Origin get rested anyway before the big game, so I reckon its better they get a bye after the mid week game.

Same with test matches and City/Country.

You won't find a more courageous player than Buderus. I don't care how tough Tongue is, he couldn't be tougher than Bedsy.

im sick of this 'burnout' talk.... they are professionals! there are alot of other sports that have longer and harder seasons than these guys do!

Name the code you speak of?

If you say English Priemer League football you are kidding yourself, yes the "clubs" play anywhere up to 50 games a season, but they have squads of 30 and 40+(at one stage Liverpool for example had not fielded the same lineup for something like 99 consecutive games) and there is no way Football (soccer) is as physically demanding as the NRL.

Or expand the top squad to 30 and have the NRL grant the clubs 6-7m each. This could be achieved by an audacious, bold plan to have News/FoxSports pay what is called in the free world as MARKET RATES to broadcast NRL rather than offering 2 cents and a contra deal at (unsurprisingly) where the NRL's advertising rates are the same as everyone else's.

haha, ahmen brother!

Its a good move by the NRL, but its only a start, a bandaid solution. Eventually when the code has more cash and clubs arent seen as poor if we lose a game or increase the cap should more effort go into player burnout.

Lets face it having the same players on the field throughout the year helps the teams play better (as the have grow more consistent), helps fans get behind the team as their best players are likely to be playing and putting in a better performance and brings in bigger crowds due to the same reason. This is why its important to put effort into keeping our players injury free and on the field.
