NRL faces major turmoil as clubs threaten breakaway league

Well RL hasn't exactly got a good track record of strong administration why are you surprised we continue to be so dysfunctional?

You've got clubs who can't make ends meet
You've got a game still divided by two states interests and affiliations
you've got a commision that can't be independent for fear of losing their jobs
We're onto our third CEO in 5 years andnpeople don't like this one so we'll see how long he lasts
In the affiliated states the independence and structures have been dismantled and good local RL people turned off the game forever

Sigh, one day, just maybe, the game will be run by competent professionals with the ability to make the sport all it could be.

Giving clubs the power to run the game will be far more costly than giving them $13mil a year.

This is it. This is the real danger here.

Our clubs cannot be trusted with the running of the sport. They're too self interested.

The fact that they have control of the NSWRL board, and in a sense, the necessary vote from one of the state bodies, to oust a commissioner is just wrong.

It's the exact same as the Knights and Titans using their votes to keep Grant. (they should abstain from voting)

Here's my compromise, the clubs can have their 130%, but NRL clubs and their feeder clubs(Wentworthville, Norths, etc), cannot have a vote on board members for the NSWRL.

They'd find ways around it.

Easier solution is to dilute the power of the clubs and give the other state associations the same voting (but not veto) rights as the QRL and NSWRL.

Problem is the rest of the states no longer have any indoependence so they would be as compromised as the nswrl. Better the nswrl and qrl are brought under the nrl umbrella and are no longer independent. You could have seperate arms then for the different stakeholders, a dept for state bodies, one for nrl clubs, one for IRL development etc with them all, feeding into the commision with good communication pathways to the ARLC and involvement in strategic planning, mbudget planning etc.

Those news articles are a joke!!
And what's even more ridiculous is people in here believe it. Most say they don't believe news reporters but then are the first to accept their crap. The deli man and the kids in the ball pit, I'm looking at you.

This entire situation should be played out behind closed doors. But the clubs have used the media to try and turn the public even more against the Nrl in there PR war.( A war that the Nrl doesn't play).

Grant is in a no-win situation. If he stays, he has apparently sold his sole and the Nrl and if he goes he is a terrible administrator. All because the media tells you so!

I actually hope he does leave and the commission sticks to there guns and the clubs don't receive 130%, don't change the 8 board commission and Grant gets a massive payout that he is entitled to.

It's hard for any company to succeed when people you are working with and making deals with leak like a sieve. Getting undermined at every turn will only ever result in mediocrity. It needs to stop.

Grant "get's a payout"? I doubt he will get a payout. He is not an employee so I don't see how he is entitled to one. It is an elected position, pretty much like the board of directors for a public company.

Yep, what I expected. More fallacies. Don't worry, I won't be head of the ARLC because News Ltd wouldn't appoint me like they did the bloke you are so desperate to defend as he scuttles around trying to buy his job for another year.

As the forums ARLC elected member

Whats proposals have you offered the clubs in this last minute peace deal ?

So clubs get 130% of the money the ARLC didn't have 2 weeks ago
They can get 1300% of the salary cap and still a majority of clubs will make a loss.
A majority of NRL clubs are not good business models.
Lets not forget the business adage, "You can't have more money going out than coming in"
