NRL Goes Back to the Bush

If a NSW team was to take a home game to a country QLD area - firstly they'd be slammed by the CRL and probably their own fans for not doing it in their home state. And even then, it would need to be against an opponent in reasonable proximity to the venue i.e. Broncos or Titans if in SW Qld or Cowboys if in Central/NW Qld.
Souths took their Cowboys game to Mackay just a few weeks ago.

Cairns, and it was against the Cowboys. Which is precisely the point I made. Did you actually read what I posted?

How many country towns have stadia that can hold 15kish? If it is part of a longer term link (like Panthers and Bathurst) then it is worth it but is playing one off games in front of 9k really going to help anything?

This stuff is too easy. There are any number of poor drawing games played in the city that country folk would turn up in droves for.

Interesting that "country" here refers only to NSW country. It may be just the author's choice of words or more likely the typical Sydney-centric view from the NRL.

Each club should take a home game out of their home market each season.

I'm all for a club to have a deal to play their 1 home match in one satellite venue each season, such as Penrith at Bathurst, and Roosters at Gosford.

Putting aside all the cynical pot shots here I reckon its a great idea. Considering the poor look from the SCG on Friday night it makes sense to do this sort of thing provided the grounds that are given the games are up to a good standard. Hopefully it becomes a reality.

I think it's a mistake. Country people are all violent drug addicts and alcoholics who don't understand things like electric lighting. The fields out there are strewn with rocks and sexually violated animal carcasses. Taking an NRL game out beyond civilisation would only stir the locals into Saturnalias of violence, rapine and flinging their own shit around.

Besides they (country "people") should concentrate on growing the food and supplying the drugs that better, more civilised people in real places require to have a comfortable life.

More likely the problem would be lighting tbh, many venues in the country (aside from Mudgee) need massive investment to have the adequate lux levels to host games that kick off any later than 3pm.
They can't be any worse than Kogarah was for that Dragons V Raiders game last year! LOL

Thankfully that night the lights were just bright enough to allow everyone to see Wighton go full genius and hand the game to the Dragons (in golden point wasn' it?)...

We need to have a strong county link to the game so this is a start. More games to the bush the better. With the QLD side of it i think it would be good if the Broncos or Titans took a game to Toowoomba or somewhere like that. It would be a great success if they did.

Sorry Cairns, you are correct. I said I was against the Cowboys. (Not sure why that is highlighted)
And I don't them being slammed by CRL.
And yes, I did read what you posted.

I think that was more to do with a power substation going down near the ground than the lux of the lights themselves :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

So you would then understand that the point you made was the one I was trying to make in the first place?

If a team is taking a match to somewhere in Country QLD, the away side needs to be a QLD side. Penrith v Manly at Mackay, for instance, would arguably flop

So Panthers are already going to Bathurst.. Roosters are going to Gosford twice in 2018..

Coffs , Tamworth and Mudgee I think already have hosted night games,, so lights must be fine.. or able to improved..

And no the country games cannot all be Sunday arvos... if we have shit time slots made for TV country games should fill some of this dead attendance slots.. Sat 3pm game maybe.. but sunday needs to be all big games in Sydney from next year,, Every sunday a Sydney derby at 4pm

Their was a game between Dogs and Melbourne at Mackay. I remember Cam 'i do no wrong' tried to take Ben Barba's face from him without asking. ( 15 seconds mark)

Try getting the Broncos to do something for the betterment of the game with nothing in it for them.

I'm not sure QLD fans are that interested in teams not from their state tbh

Still a lot of Qlders who support their old Sydney team as there are Novocastrians wjo hate the Knights but love Parra, Dogs? Bunnies and Dragons.

Besides, they will flock there as neutrals just to watch the nrl.

Thats very unfair on Cam. He was just competing. That was one hell of a try. Shows just how far the Dogs have fallen.

Gosford is hardly the bush. Roosters take it there for the gate, not for the betterment of the game.

Manly should play a chunk of their home games there. Better fit.
