According to the NRL season draw on nrl.com.au the round 6 game between penrith and the storm will be held at Hindmarsh stadium.

I suprised that they are hosting a game in SA and not Perth but what would people be expecting crowd wise and publicity wise from this game.

Depending on the promotion of the game, I'd say about 10,000-12,000 at the most.

Pleased to see a game in SA but frustrated that there isn't a master plan to get NRl set ups back in WA and SA. Whilst the local leagues have to underwrite the games there is a massive gamble for them to hold games in Perth or Adelaide. This should be what some of News Ltd's 10mill steal back is used for IMO.

Couldn't agree more.

O/T but are any of you other Perth people watching the Force at all? I'd only ever go out of curiosity and even then it'd have to be a freebie.

No chance i'll be going.

On another note their crowds will be interesting, they get huge crowds for the first couple of years but if as i expect they have very little success early on their crowds could drop just like the glory

Hate RU but I might go to see some "rugby", any is better than none! Can't stand AFL and soccer is boring so I guess it only leaves rugger. Think my wife might divorce me if she finds out though! I could end up being a closet RU fan!!

I rang the Panthers ticketing line the other day to try and find out info about buying tickets for this game. They couldn't tell me where to get tickets from but they did say the ticket prices will be $12 for an adult, $6 for a child & $30 for a family.

crowd will be crap. It is the easter weekend and the biggest racing meet is on, the adelaide cup.

Not sure, I reckon should still go alright. Is a fair islander/maori population here and a lot of the union crowd would go to this as well.

Also, not trying to be an ass, but Adelaide cup is on next week, you are thinking of Oakbank, which will have its usual collection of Adelaide dressed up bogans drinking out of plastic cups

Not a chance.
There is no way that I'll EVER go to a union game.

I completely ignore it, just as I do aussie rules. It sounds difficult to ignore both, given their blanket coverage and hype at the moment, but it is very possible. Mind you, I rarely read the newspaper, I don't watch the news, and I rarely pay attention to the radio news broadcasts, so those factors certainly help!

To be fair, Perth hosted an NRL match last season so why not Adelaide this time?

So has there been any actual promotion on the ground in Adelaide or not?

Yes, at least one player from each team was in Adelaide 4 weeks ago for the "launch" of this game after the time and date was announced.

I don't know if there's been anything since though. I'll see if I can find out tomorrow.

League of their own
By DOUG ROBERTSON
13apr06

RUGBY league legend Gorden Tallis tips a combination of class and the surprise inclusion of granite-tough half-back Craig Gower will push Penrith Panthers over the line against Melbourne Storm at Hindmarsh Stadium on Saturday.

Australia's Raging Bull over 11 Tests and Queensland heart-and-soul over 17 State-of-Origin battles and more than 200 for Brisbane Broncos, Tallis said Gower was "the toughest bloke ever".

Pre-game ticket sales neared 5000 by close of business yesterday and Tallis said "it would be a shame" if Adelaide's rugby league fraternity did not come out in support of the match.
"These are wonderful athletes, they're some of the best athletes in the world," Tallis said.
"The Rhys Wessers (Penrith full back) are just as good as any athletes playing any code in this country."
The entertaining 189cm, 105kg Queenslander - widely considered one of league's best ever - was in Adelaide yesterday to boost interest in the promotional match.
Third-placed Penrith chose to bring NRL to the former home of the defunct Adelaide Rams while it's stadium is being refurbished in Sydney.
The Storm (fifth) has hit a slow patch with losses to North Queensland and Wests Tigers before a bye which will go against the Melbourne club.
However, neither team will be hindered by the unusual location.
"It's not a holiday when you go away. They get into a routine. I tip Penrith just on experience," Tallis said. "Penrith's marquee players are playing a little bit better than the Storm's marquee players plus there's no Billy Slatter and no Scott Hill (both suspended) for the Storm.
"I reckon they'll play that Greg Inglis at full back and he's just as good (as Slater).
"Greg Inglis is just as good as any of them. If he played full back at any club you'd be happy, you wouldn't swap him for any other player."
Inglis, 19, has made just 17 first-grade appearances and was named along with Steve Turner at fullback to replace Slater.
The teams arrive in Adelaide tomorrow and will train at Hindmarsh later, the Panthers from 6pm then the Storm.
The venue is picture perfect for rugby league, Panthers general manager Michael Leary said.
"I think the players will get a shock when they see the quality of the stadium," he said. "We just want people to come along and enjoy the spectacle."

Green Machine beat me to it. It's interesting, it's a Panthers home game but most of the articles in Adelaide's Advertiser newpaper seem to be by our about Storm.

Also a few Storm players have already headed over and have done some promotions, attended something like 34 schools.
