NRL in trouble, Football has arrived

I have never seen so many people with flags, T-shirts, jumpers, posters etc etc etc. The A league will now dominate the NRL in Sydney & the Central Coast, kill off the Storm. THE ARU have a lot to worry about aswell.

As Frank Skinner sang "Footballs coming home, its coming home, its coming home, its coming, footballs coming home"

Yes, you're right, Rugby League will die while they're playing and the A-League is in it's offseason..... oh and summer? Yeah the A-League will be bigger than the Ashes....

Must be something about world Cups!!! Didn't union take over as the premier sport after their world cup here?

Dear Tigger:

This is up there with your Wests Tigers for the Spoon thread from last year. The World Cup is awesome because the best talent in the world is on display...The A League is somewhere between MLS and The Isthmian League in terms of quality...Soccer dominating Australia is as likely as peace in the Middle East...

Yawn...

When Kewell and Viduka and other australia stars are playing A league, and it is played in winter, and ch7 screen friday night games, and they regularly get an avg of 16k to each game, and also draw in 500k on TV, then i will start to think about getting worried.
Soccer will never take over this nation.

It's great to see soccer have its time in the sun for the month or so this world cup is on. It's been awesome and I'm seriously in need of some sleep as I've been up watching most of the games. Unfortunately that's where my interest in soccer starts and ends.

This will be the case for most footy following Aussies (NRL, AFL), unless you can convince Harry and Viduka to play in the A League.

This from the same fool who made this bold prediction (below) March last year, after Wests Tigers 1st round loss:

Well another 12 months, another wasted year. When will you 'fans' learn that your merger has been falling apart since the day it started? I just can't see anyway that this is an improvement on even Western Suburbs's darkest days!!??

Youve a bad habit of going off half cocked after one or two games.
Youve just given soccer the kiss of death now, Nostradamus.

Who does this "fan" support now?

Balmain?
Socceroos?
England?
Brazil?

15,500 for the NRL so Far...10,800 for the A League...But seriously, I love the amount of people with an agenda against RL who feel the need to lie about our attendances on the main board lately.

It should also be added that that crowd average represents the second highest in the games history...

you idiot! of course we are all proud our the socceroos, they are doing our nation proud. we support them as rugby league fans, and also as sporting fans. the code may take off in australia, but it will never be at rugby leagues expense. a lot of people do enjoy more than one sport.

The AwFuL stooges have been going on about this for a while now, scared of all-powerful soccer. It's a different game played in a different part of the year that has none of the confrontational element of the other codes. It will find it's niche, the Socceroos success has seen to that, it has had a surge in popularity - but it won't take over, come semi-finals time in either of Australias big codes and Soccer won't rate a mention.

How many more times do we have to here about one code blowing others away? It takes decades for codes to penetrate. Do people think its just a coincidence that League is big in Sydney and AFL is big in NSW? People know soccer exists, its not a new sport. The success of the soceroos doesn't neccessarily correlate with people enjoying the game more. Theres a difference between liking a sport and wanting success eg. how many people enjoy watching swimming?

Are you serious with the bolded bit above, and it depends on who's swimming and what she's wearing.

The NRL has been f**ked since super league and wont be able to truly shine until News Limited gets out of the game...which as i recall is in about 2015?

The AFL does EVERYTHING better...sponsorship, publicity, advertising, grassroots development, expansion...and yet they have a grossly inferior product. The NRL needs to be far more aggressive.

Tigger still bears the scars of the merger of his beloved club. He was death-riding it from day one and hasn't gotten over the fact that the merged club is successful.

He turned his attention to the Balmain Premier League team until they merged with Ryde Eastwood, now he's a lost soul who hates Rugby League with a passion and is 12,000 miles from the EPL.

He has nowhere to go on the weekends any more....

I'm about as big a football/soccer nut as you can get (i've been operating on 3-4 hours of sleep a night), but i still love my league as well.

considering that the a league is on during the off season, i think there is room for it as well.

the main bone of contention i guess is the battle for juniors, which would be more fierce between union, league and afl. the afl has been desperate for years to build a viable youth system to the code in sydney.

Noooo...your beloved Eels are on the slide, the NRL is not.
They just signed a 400 million dollar deal with nine and fox.
