NRL Jersey prices are a rip off

make a stand...

save your $150... invest only $7 instead on coloured markers...

you can then wear your jersey with two types of pride... team pride & the pride of knowing you made it youself..

That's a great idea muzby. I thought I would help the Roosters' cause by desigining and making an alternate jersey....it was really cheap to make.

I want to lodge a complaint with the NRL in to why jersey prices are so high in this country. What concerns me is that the same makers/brands in the U.K sell Super League and Rugby Union jerseys for a fraction of the price. In fact in many cases 1/2 the price of what we pay for the jerseys here.

I have looked up all the Super League teams and the average price for a replica 2011 jersey ranges from 40 pounds ($75 Australian Dollars). Through to 45 pounds ($80 Australian Dollars). Brands include Kooga, Canterbury and ISC. I have also compared Rugby jersey prices in 6 other European countries and none of which price there jerseys over equivalent of $100 Australian dollars.

Who is responsible for setting the prices in Australia? Obviously there is merchandising fees and other costs. Does this justify an almost $100 difference?

Are clothing manufacturers price fixing the jersey prices? Knowing that no matter what price they post the fans will fork out up to $170 for a NRL jersey. I bought 2 jerseys this year and it cost me substantially more then my season ticket. It is just fascicle.

The prices have been pushed far above the reach of many fans in our sport. In an era where we want to compete with other codes and attract people to our game and the cost of being a fan continue to rise. Don't even get me started with prices of food and drinks at the football.

If any one knows of whom I can pose the question to at the NRL or even the individual shirt manufacturers themselves then that would be appreciated.

Are you a Titans fan?

If it makes you feel better if you buy your jerseys from the CLUB stores as well the money is going to YOUR team, not Rebel or Amart.

$160 for a Jersey is ridiculous. You want a cheaper jersey, head out to Campbelltown.

There is a sports store in a factory outlet center on Queen St Campbelltown which had Jersey's for about half that price new. May have just been prices on special though.

I think I heard on the radio Peter Wyn's are having a jersey sale this week. Can anyone confirm?

That is true:),

Mens Pre 2011 jersey's $50
Woman's Pre 2011 jersey's $40
Kids Pre 2011 jersey's $30

There was an add in yesterday's telegraph, can't remember when the sale ends though!

I don't think you can claim market forces are responsible for determining the price of supporter jersies.

The market forces argument usually relates to a market sector with multiple competitors and suplementary products available. This clearly isn't the case with NRL merchandise.

I'm not going to where a Manchester United shirt to a Panther's game. My only choice is to buy a Panther's jersey at $150.00. The thing is I can easily afford to piss away $150 on a piece of sponsored covered plastic. I imagine for a family of five the finances may not so easily stretch to the $750 required to kit out the whole family.

The profit argument is flawed. Is it not better to sell 3,000 items at $20.00 margin than 1,000 items at $40.00 margin?

Lower prices may also result in higher sales of other merchandise.

For example in the past three months I have dropped close to $1,000 on Blu Rays from Amazon US & UK. If Amazon wasn't so cheap I wouldn't have gone to JB HiFi and spent the same $1,000 to purchase less. I just wouldn't have spent the money at all and it'd be earning interest in a savings account.

That's very cheap! Any retro jerseys by any chance?

Not sure mate, didnt end up getting out there...
I just went to the Rebel Sport closest to me and told them Peter Wynns were having a sale and they priced matched the jersey for me. Grand total of $50.
So, if you cant get to Peter Wynns, head to Rebel and they call the store to confirm.

Rebel is actually meant to match and then beat by 10%, or discount by 10% of the difference, cant rememebr which one, eiher way it should end up cheaper than the other store you use as a price match

Im more then happy to pay $160 for a Raiders jersey, well worth the money to support a great club. I have to agree the other 15 clubs jerseys are an absolute rip off, Highway robbery!
