Was at the game tonight and I can genuinely say it felt like the life had been sucked out of us. The playing group, and the fans. There was no spark, little atmosphere and by the looks of it , we have 15 more weeks of this.
In front of me (I could hear the convo because of how quiet the place was ) I heard fans talking about checking out the upcoming Swans v GWS game, how much GWS is doing for families at games etc. This morning I read an article about how GWS is a club on the rise vs us the basketcase. This follows weeks and weeks of daily negative press about our club. The conspiracy theorist in me thinks it wouldn't suprise me if the AFL hired a private investigator to bring our club down , as we cflearly stand as the main pillar between them and the West of Sydney.
The realist in me thinks what the f**k has our fearless leader Todd Greenberg done about it? Isn't part of his job as CEO to protect the 16 clubs under the NRL banner? Then how does it get to this where other sports are kicking us in the mouth ? The fans, coaches and players at Parramatta have been exposed by the poor governance of the NRL. Every one knows the salary cap is openly manipulated to give certain teams a massive advantage. Weekly we are playing teams spending more then us on players, yet we are shedding players. It took until Round 10 for the NRL to hand down penalties for breaches their own goverance couldn't detect. What other sport in the world has a team playing for nothing for over half a season and expects that interest will be maintained?
What other sport lets a team play 10 rounds whilst not following the rules to the extent those rounds all become redundant? What code lets one of their clubs get repeatedly smashed daily by negative press? What other code leaves members and fans open to being turned off their game like this?
Would be great if Greenberg could show some leadership right now rather than doing victory lap media tours, twitter Q&A's where he answers powder puff Questions, and telling journos how great a guy he is because of his 'secret', no honestly it was top secret... visit to Foran at his rehab facility.
I acknowledge the board at Parra have been stupid in openly not following the letter of the law whilst others do it discretely. I have never been as disinterested in the game as I am today.
