Refer to my previous post...3 things I was looking for in the tournament:

Fitness
Combinations
Team Spirit

Zero evidence of any of the above. Let's hope they pick it up in the next game.

yeah i think in a pre season tournament you are really relying on a players natural instincts and skills to take over, as they would have been basically doing strength and conditioning training most of the pre season..
ie - mullen and his running and kicking game we just saw...

and we seem to really lack in naturally footy instincts and natural ability in a lot of players...
as last season
...

im not too surprised though as this was already a concern coming into the season and they have done nothing in the off season to fix it.

massive concern...coz clearly we're not going to outmuscle teams this year.

Not sure how we're going to get many wins without individuals with natural footy instincts.

at half time manly was leading saints in possession but saints were leading in the score. saints played an unstructured game thats why we scored some spectacular tries. i liked eto, glymin and crook BUT there were lots of defensive errors that allowed manly a sniff of victory. in the end we won just.

Wow, amazing what we can do when we have a no.7 who can actually kick the ball!

Widdop & Marshall will obviously be the first choice halves - hopefully Crook & Hutchison have plenty of time together in NSW Cup so they're ready when needed.

Nabuli showed plenty of confidence which is good to see in any player, but terrific in a guy who's fighting for a first grade spot.

9s really isn't a great indication of how he will go during the real season, but boy he does show plenty of promise. For someone who started playing league late, he has some pretty good skills and has a pretty good frame. If nothing else, the guy looks awesome in the red and white.

Look at the highlights for the game on nrl.com - great freeze frame they've used for the video...

It'd be silly not to give him first crack at a wing spot, IMO it's a no brainer decision.

Messy win in tough conditions over the Eels.
Positives - Benji looking sharp and will be in for a big year. Thompson was a tackling machine. Nabuli will score plenty of try's this year wherever he plays. Frizell showed some nice touches. Crook was sharp and Nightingale was........well Nightingale.

Negatives - if that was the new Dan Hunt - I preferred the old one. Long year in the Cutters for him. Considering the weather conditions, not much else to add.

Dan Hunt was terrible again and seemed to have his head somewhere else. If we see him in first grade this year we're in big trouble. Oh yeah, and Glymin needs to work on his situational awareness which was poor. Other than those two points I thought there were a lot of positives across the park. How good was Marshall?

Nabuli, this guy is a crowd pleaser looks the goods again in highlights vs Eels. Reminds a bit of Noa Nadruku with his size and speed. If he is anywhere near as good we will have a very good winger.

Just watched the final of the Nines and kept a close eye on Beale and Stanley. Even though it is the Nines
glad that they have moved on. Beale still soft in defence, particularly in the red zone and Stanley still plays without any energy or urgency. Will not be missed.
But Cronulla are definitely going to get great value out of Bird and Valentine Holmes. Stars of the future.

Great win to the Rabbits.
