Sydney merkins will have the shits when Perth averages 20k plus next year. Then again two of the shit Sydney clubs that can't pull a crowd in Sydney will have their averages boosted massively.

But according to our mate Perth Red, they have stopped attending NRL games in Perth as a protest against no expansion team there..... Is this not the case anymore, or will they only attend NRL games when it coincides with a new stadium being opened?

The following is taken from the NRL's website -

Double-header at Perth Stadium
Tue 29 Aug, 2017, 8:00am
Media Release, NRL

The NRL will stage a double header at the new Perth Stadium in Round 1 of the 2018 NRL Telstra Premiership season.

South Sydney and the Bulldogs will host matches as part of an historic double header at the soon-to-be-completed stadium, on Saturday March 10, 2018.

Due to the significance of the event, the NRL has released tickets for the double header in advance of the draw release. It will be the first time the NRL has released tickets for an event prior to the official NRL Telstra Premiership draw announcement, giving out-of-state fans plenty of opportunity to plan and book their travel.

It also means a rugby league event will be the first sporting contest at Perth Stadium to go on sale.

"This will be a spectacular way to help kick off the new NRL season – a Saturday double header at the brand new stadium in Perth," NRL Chief Executive Todd Greenberg said.

"Fans will get two premiership matches in a blockbuster event at incredible value.

"I'd like to thank both the Government of Western Australia and Tourism WA for their strong desire to showcase rugby league on this stage, as well as the two clubs for embracing the concept."

The opponents for the Bulldogs and Rabbitohs will be confirmed later in the year through the general release of the 2018 Telstra Premiership schedule.

The NRL will be the first rectangular sport to compete at the state-of-the-art new stadium, while the double header is the first confirmed sporting event at the venue.

Special early bird prices will be available for a limited time.

Tickets will be available from $20 for adults as well as $50 for families. Members will be able to purchase tickets from $15 (adults) and $45 (families). All tickets will also include integrated public transport.

Tickets will go on sale to all NRL Club Ticketed Members on Tuesday at 10am AEST and to the general public at 10am AEST Wednesday, August 30.

Fans will be able to see first-hand the reconfiguration ability of the new stadium. Spectators will also get the chance to experience Perth Stadium's fan-first approach to design and technology.

Tickets will be available at nrl.com/tickets

It will be interesting to see what they do re: the opponents. They could go all out and put a combination of Parra/Roosters/St George/Tigers to give them marquee match ups but I doubt the 2 clubs would want to not host those games in Sydney.

Maybe Melbourne and a QLD team for national appeal?

I think I might actually be in Perth that weekend, so would be stoked if Storm was one of the opponents.

Don't waste a traditional rival. No matter who plays in the double header you'd draw 40k+ surely

Something like
Souths v Titans
Bulldogs v Warriors

Would still draw near capacity

Souths v Brisbane only drew 11k on a Friday night this year so no great loss to that being a fixture, plenty of Qlanders in Perth to promote it to.

I'd rather see Bulldogs v Warriors in Christchurch or Wellington

Souths v Warriors will get 20k plus on its own,
then Bulldogs v Broncos will pick up another 10k then there will be many thousands who come to see the stadium.

Ko time will be interesting with the 3 hours time difference and potential heat still in early March. Maybe they'll go 4:30pm and 6:30 pm Perth time? This year March 10th had a max of 30degrees, but then agaon as it is a NRL game it will probably be torrential rain!

Honestly don't care who it is as long as it isn't any of the big rivals for both those teams (roosters, tigers, saints, eels etc)

4:30 and 6:30pm Ko makes sense as that means 6:30 and 8:30 EST (is Perth 2 hours ahead that time of year or 3?)

As we saw for the test match an event will draw a crowd still.

What are they old PNG ones they couldn't sell?

Cash converters
Classy

There'd be no rl in Perth if it wasn't for the guy who owns the multi million $ cash convertor business. And yes the red, yellow and black is very png'ish. Nice colours though I'd prefer we eventually went with scarlet red and gold as the two primary colours
