Unfortunately PNG is stated to have the second highest crime rate in the world. Not something to be taken lightly. As for the Qld Cup, fans in PNG know that it's a step down or a lower grade from the NRL, and therefore is less scrutinized.

But a question for both of you. What happens to the PNG team after the ten year government handout?

Believe it or not, I want this to work. If the PNG team is successful, then that would be awesome, and maybe in some way shape or form, could turn the country around for the better.

But you also have to recognize the many challenges this PNG club will face, both on and off the field.
Probably if successful or atleast mud table most years and going well, the team gets its own sponsorship by then, the govt still pays for Super Rugby teams and they still their own sponsors too..
As far as the crime rate, you only need to look at north America, where there is a bucket loads of crime and murder, and still they have Mega rich NFL, NBL, MBL etc clubs, being 3rd world and having high crime rate is not the unique issue

They won't. Another team paying licence will come in..
Until we see the business plan nobody really knows

They will have a large sponsorship portfolio from mining companies and nobody knows what the png govt will provide for the bid

they will be getting more money than news ltd pumped into the storm and the arlc grant will be seven million dollars above the salary cap ie around 20 million grant pa

everyone forgets about the arlc grant
It’s so high just about any club can make a profit now

Nrl grant (going up) 19.5 millon mins salary cap 12.5 million

profit 7 million dollars

assuming zero income from elsewhere can you run a png based team on seven million dollars ?

you can easily

then you’ve got sponsorship and png govt supopoet to add to that

Actually everyone knows that the country that has had to take billions of dollars in loans over the last few years to cover shortfalls in its budget, will not be funding a sports team. But good to see you are calling for more govt funds to go to rich sportspeople in a country where 40% of the population live in poverty.

Yes we know that you prioritise rich sportspeople over kids living in poverty. More money for the rich sportspeople. Stupid kids should have been born rich.
You must be uber rich then, that's not how foreign aid works, we send money to fund special programs and to build things the help them become self sufficient, not just throw money at the poor, geez that would solve everything instantly if that was the case, if we grabbed every poor kid of the street and handed him $1000 dollarbucks, ...now go ahead kid, clean yourself up and get a hot meal. Feds give money to union and afl not a peep

but when it’s rugby league they pipe up as undeserving
Correct, didn't Pat Conroy just announce a tour to Tonga for union aswell during our nrl magic round.
Like seriously there must be some massive butthurt Union or AFL trolls here and if they aren't they must be racists, coz if this was let's say a Canadian team the Australian govt was funding, other that the travel time, there probably wouldn't be a peep

If AFL were paid to have PNG team they'd jump at it. ABC would be saying how great it was too!!

I'm not sure why you are talking about foreign aid. My response was to your mate wanting the PNG govt to take money out of the budget they already can't afford, and give it to rich sportspeople.

The PNG govt are in fact supposed to be funding programs to help get the 40% of their population out of poverty.

Desperate man plays the race card. The place is corrupt and putting that money in a corrupt countries hands is concerning.
