It's just a pity there were no islanders sitting near them in the crowd to give these idiots what they deserved.

i would have thought petero would have more self control than what he did.
If i were the bloke who bought the beer i would be sending a bill to the panthers club for one round of the shout.

Ideally I agree but I think it comes down to the individual. It's not football it's society in general. At the Shark's game the other week I was sitting in front of a bloke who kept abusing the Eels', swearing at the "coconuts" all game. With his two kids next to him. It'll be them doing the same thing in 20 years. Education shouldn't be taught by the clubs. Everyone with those opinions is going to have them deeply rooted inside, a billboard or ad isn't going to teach anything.

I agree with your idea, but I really think it's something people have to be taught personally, and have the message reported so. It's not going to work otherwise.
On a wider level definitely, the clubs or league aren't going to change the whole of society. Unfortunately people will carry on and pass down what they personally believe, and you need generatiosn before people can learn to be more accepting than the generations above.

But if clubs/league make an effort for what they can control - their own game days - then these behaviours won't happen at the grounds and won't need to be reacted against by players or reported in teh press. It simply won't be accepted if the league and clubs educate people about their repsonsibilities for respectful behaviour and the consequences. As people will then at the very least learn they have to keep their racist opinions to themselves for a few hours while in a crowd enjoying watching players of all backgrounds entertaining us with footy.

I see our forummer who believed that English soccer wasn't racist or violent any more hasn't come back to continue that debate . It happens everywhere, but the codes and clubs have to be the ones to stamp it out of their own game.
