Apart from his goal kicking, Halligan was only good for sneaking a try in the corner every now and then. Can you imagine him taking a hitup like todays wingers do? Times have changed.
Jonathan Davies?
Yeah, think Johns et al were discussing it the other day, the role of the wing has changed - it's much more important now, whereas centres are an afterthought - but back then wonderful footballers like Miles, OConnor, ET, Ella etc were in the centres, and while Grothe could have done the modern role, he didn't...

Halligan had a great career though, and I think he was an afterthought in the Simonsen deal

Innes was one that went under the radar a bit - quality AB and excellent league centre - like John Schuster, probably could have been a great at either, but ended up not quite being a great in either code - probably because they shifted mid career rather than early or late

Just found this on Papworth - interesting how he mentions the contact in league vs the highest level of union - back then anyway

The Winfield Cup/NSWRL really targeted union's goalkickers. Ridge, Schuster, Halligan, Crossan. All excellent at converting a try, kicking a penalty.

Mark Brooke-Cowden was an All Black '87 RWC-winning flanker that went to league, and was good. But he went to the UK.

Chads off!!!
Shoulder charge to Ponga's head.
10mins and 1 week suspension would have been more to our liking.
Graham and Rudoff need some time off next week for their Lino tackle.
Not sure how how NAS got away with his shoulder charge to head as that was worse and only got a fine.

Send off a complete joke given what other high shots have been let go this year.. not even clear it was high... 10 mins

I’d much rather be hit like that than what Hetherington did...

It's in our hands now. We just need to concentrate on winning our next two games, then it'll be a redhot chance to qualify for the finals in the last two rounds.

I'm on board.

Sharks are top 8 pretenders, can’t beat a team above them on the ladder

How the hell did the refs come up with high for that shot on Ponga ? It didn’t look high live, it didn’t look high on replay, and Ponga confirmed post match it wasn’t high. Flashbacks to John Hopoate though lol

That was a very successful group of league converts from the late-80s/early-90s All Blacks.

I'm thinking Ridge, Innes, Schuster, Sherlock, Botica and Gallagher.

Oh, and Jonathan Davies from Wales.

Had it confirmed earlier that Josh is the nephew of John, Cust cut from the Manly squad so he looks certain to get a run now. Fittler came out today and said he is the best underage player in NSW so will be interesting to have a look at him

Sadly 2 50 point wins still have us in 9th at start of round 19. Our points diff is a massive issue.

Sharks have Roosters Raiders to finish
We have Raiders Manly.

Beat Eels we keep hopes alive, beat Sharks we have a sniff.

8th is always a poor team, will be no different this year...

I don’t think it was high. It was a shoulder charge. Not a send off IMO
