Penrith conceding 30 a game after 3 rounds. End of an era?

Yea no doubt they're still leaking too many points but otherwise I thought that was actually really impressive from Penrith all things considered.

To think they'll probably be quite disappointed at not getting the win, despite missing two of their most influential players, and against what was close to Melbourne's top team at home.

It's a fair question, to me. They lost Cleary but still scored 24 points, which is a fair effort against Melbourne. They conceded 30, again, and they've played three great sides now but that just doesn't happen to Penrith. Cleary no doubt forces a change in their shape but defensively, you wouldn't have thought it should change things considerably.

They'll be there and there abouts, no doubt. And they did incredibly well to push the Storm. But yeah it's absolutely worth questioning if this is the dynasty slowly grinding to a halt. It might not be, they'll absolutely improve, they have the best coach in the game. We'll see.

Clearly will also be missing the next game due to a mandatory 11 game stand down period.

I watched parts of it, was a decent game.
Don't think they'll fall off too much. They may not be the Panthers of the last 5/6 seasons or so, but like everyone else has said, they'll be there or there abouts. Talagi will only get better there now as well

I'm moving to Melbourne in late June, which is a double-edged sword...I move to the city of the club I despise, but I will be living 10-15 mins drive from AAMI, and will get to see the Broncs, Roosters, and a few others before the end of the season and boo the purple f**kers.

On the plus, I'll get to be in the Aussie time zone which means I'll definitely watch games like the Storm Panthers block buster tonight, which I'd absolutely watch at 8pm but I won't tonight on a work night at 10pm.

And I'll get to watch two Origins this year, as #2 is in Perth and #3 I'll be in Australia.

Same with Broncs Cows tomorrow night, although given it's a weekend I'll probably stay up for that.

Sea Eagles Raiders on Sunday is going to be an absolute ripper, as well.

Geez I love the NRL.

It’s going to be quite emotional at Brookvale on Sunday night, a 12 year old lad that the Trbojevic brothers had taken under their wing for the last year lost his battle with cancer. Absolutely terrible stuff

I lived there for 2.5 years in 2013 so yeah, absolutely I get that. I did enjoy the passion, to be honest. I wish NZ had the same passion for rugby, which we think we do but we don't.

I don't like the game, however. Messy as shit. Absolutely unwatchable when it's wet.

The cap is biting for them, unlike some others. But I think last night showed they’re better than fine. Sure they conceded 30, but Melbourne conceded 34. Penrith had their third string fullback and lost Cleary early. Don’t see any other team doing that in Melbourne tbh

Nah, that's exactly right. I forgot about Edwards. To lose 30-24 in Melbourne with a spine of Jenkins (who doesn't even have a picture on nrl.com) Talagi Cole and Kenny is pretty good.

The rest of the field still have to beat them, no matter if they're not at the top of their game. Melbourne thought they would last year but got strangled out

Covid helped a bit there and sounds like glamour club not made to travel to NZ much.
Hopefully we can correct it tonight but not confident in a win (as usual).

18 of Melbourne's points came directly from Jenkins too unfortunately. Munster really worked the poor dude over.

He was out of position for the kicks Katoa and Pap scored from after being manipulated into the frontline, and then for some reason he just didn't compete for the kick Coates scored off.

Don't want to be too harsh on the young fella, but you'd back Edwards to have saved at least one of those plays.

Ha, I looked into it further and it is true, given we were in Redcliffe in 2020-21 (although had no home game v Roosters in 21) and scored 0 in 2023 and 2018. Brilliant stat though.

I'm someone who has no particular affiliation to any sport - I try to enjoy them all. I grew up a dyed-in-the-wool union kid who adored the game, was obsessed with the Ranfurly Shield, NPC etc, and never played a single game of league. But I don't watch union now, really, unless I'm at a pub or with mates or my daughter wants to watch the women's game. Plus All Blacks' big games.

But I just f**king love the NRL and the superiority of the product. I would watch all 8 games a weekend if I was single. I can't remember loving it more than this year, was so hyped for round 1 and I still am. I'm hyped for a Sunday night game between Manly and Raiders, it's that addictive.

AFL wise, I tried to get into it 12 years back and I will this time over there, as well. And sometimes it can be a highly skillful, entertaining game. But half the time it's awful. The passion alone makes it theatre, so I'm actually best just to read newspapers and watch panel shows, which is what I did last time.

I’m the same with rugby, there was a time when I camped out all night to get super rugby finals tickets, now I don’t watch a second of it

Used to watch all sports but now as family come along have had to trim back how much I watch, NRL still right up in the top couple on that list, even though I long for the old days at times haha

AFL I used to watch every Saturday afternoon in the late 90s on Prime TV, ok to watch at times but generally a mess of a game

Have cricket on the TV and Warriors on my phone at the same time currently, must have hit an all time low in NZ Sports commentary when I have to hear Scott Stevenson, Katey Martin, Glen Larmer and Honey at the same time, all are absolutely awful
