NRL Rd 5 2025 - General Non-Warriors Thread

My daughter saw a packet of NRL cards at Paper Plus as well, $8 I think they were!! It hurt me to say no but geez it's not as simple as when we went to Card Crazy back in the day and came out with a lot for not much. Or maybe my memory hasn't reminded me that my olds felt the same...
Yeah the price of so many things like that these days is exorbitant, 9 cards in the pack for $5 so that isn’t quite as bad as I was expecting, he won’t be collecting a full set though !

They are nice looking cards, and he picked up a few inserts as well so he got a bit lucky. Warriors logo card was another pickup he liked

That’s a fantastic half of footy, the attack from both sides unreal, just one side can defend better, especially on repeat efforts

Atkins might need some shields heading into the tunnel at HT lol

Yeah I didn't want to pull the union refs card but they are miles better and as you say, far more complex rules too.
Yeah man it's a fair point. Rugby is a mess in many ways (although Super Rugby has been pretty good) but their referees are so much better at communication and application of the laws, it's insane.

Maybe it's a public school v private school thing in Australia? Their league referees might just not be that smart, whereas our refs and the ones who gravitate to union in Aus (more of a haves than have not sport there) are just better educated.

I still don't think the Dogs are a title contender, but gee they must be well coached and well led. Their attitude is spot on every week and has been since the start of last year

Rugby refs probably not dealing with as much fatigue as the ball is only in play half the time ?

Melbourne thump Manly, Bulldogs hold Newcastle scoreless.

Rd 5 Ladder:

Seeing is believing, top four! Penrith drop to 15th. Roosters to 16th. Still so early in the season and hubris awaits if we get too mouthy.

I might be in a bit of strife, just been through the mall with the young fella, he spotted NRL cards at Paper Plus, got him a few packets. Opened his first one and got a special card, said to me “Dad I want to get Tom” and he opens up his 2nd pack and there is Tom Trbojevic. He may be hooked now and the wife won’t be impressed at all

Takes me back to 1991 when my dad sent me into the dairy with $2 and I came out with 4 packs with the bubble game isside and they had a puzzle of the 1990 Kangaroo tour on the back.

Sweet memories, don't deny the kid. But, as mentioned, things are so much more expensive these days.

(For some reason I thought your story was going to be, 'he spotted a Storm jumper and said, dad, can I...?')

This weekend is a real litmus test!
LESH GO!!
I'll be there in my Warriors jersey..... alongside my brother in law in a Storm jersey.

I'm a little uptight about it all. Is our club a house of cards? Will one Storm hiding topple us this season? My answer to that is no but our checkered history has me nervous.

Storm seem to be on another level at the moment. If they turn up (and Hughes plays), they'll be hard to beat.

After playing the Storm in April away, for all those years, I thought we should play another first game against them at home this year (like last year, when we still got beaten, but not disgraced).

(See, I'm rattled already).

I think I went to the last time we beat the Storm (?) in 2014. By this, I clearly mean in Melbourne

I was almost going to be there this year, but left my flights too long. And I'll be living there from July, so maybe next year is our year?
