It wasn't just the Reds who had to cover their opponents' travel and accommodation fees. The same stipulation was placed on the Cowboys by NSWRL clubs. The big issue with having national lower grade competitions comes back to cost.
Firstly the home team would (in most cases) have to stump up more money for ground hire for each round as the venue has to pay for staff, lighting etc. It is not something the clubs will get for free.
Secondly it means additional costs to the NRL for travel, and where needed, accomodation. That is one thing the NRL took on at its formation is the burden of inter-city/inter-statre/international travel costs and associaated accomodation fort visiting teams. They wanted to avoid what happened with the Western Reds having to pay for the visting teams out of their own pocket. This will also flow on for referees anbd touch judges too. This means the NRL will have to outlay more money on this alone.
NSW Cup and Qld Cup should combine and break away from the NRL. Then improve the rules to make it better and sell content to Fox and ABC or Ten.
Try to make it in the summer as with the decline in cricket something has to take its place. It wasn't just the Reds who had to cover their opponents' travel and accommodation fees. The same stipulation was placed on the Cowboys by NSWRL clubs.
Bringing back reserve grade will weaken the commercial opportunities for the Queensland Cup clubs and possibly kill off the Newtown Jets and North Sydney Bears.
If this crap goes ahead then North Sydney and Newtown would probably have to join the Queensland Cup.
I'd watch it. The Queensland Cup already covers all games on their own streaming service.
Play it in quarters with a five minute break at quarter and three-quarter time, with a 15 minute break at half time to squeeze in my advertising. Maybe even go back to unlimited interchanges with an extended bench.Try to make it in the summer as with the decline in cricket something has to take its place.
I know its too hot in summer but just bring in a break every ten minutes.
Yep. Additionally play all the games at night.Play it in quarters with a five minute break at quarter and three-quarter time, with a 15 minute break at half time to squeeze in my advertising. Maybe even go back to unlimited interchanges with an extended bench.
I didn't watch the cricket this year. I used to watch it regularly. I think it's a dying game. The most skill is in Tests and that format is outdated in today's face-paced world. ODI games are meaningless and T20I don't have the lustre of Tests.Yep. Additionally play all the games at night.
I really think it would rate pretty good in summer. It is sad but people are largely over cricket.
Offer it to Paramount+ over the summer months until 2028. It'll drive up the price for the NRL rights in 2028.It’s not that much hotter on a night and will be more pleasant for fans attending games. They could televise a Friday, Saturday and Sunday night game. Gives people a reason not to cancel kayo in November for 4 months!
cost will be Interesting. Nrl could end up covering nrl, nrlw, reserve grade and U21 travel costs
You do realise the Sydney NRL clubs are pushing for this structure, and have the power to get it through by virtue of having nine commissioners on the ARLC, right?Meanwhile back in reality, and not cuckoo land, regional areas will be slowly be starved of top level footy and the young guys denied pathways to the NRL.
You do realise the Sydney NRL clubs are pushing for this structure, and have the power to get it through by virtue of having nine commissioners on the ARLC, right?
The same Sydney RL clubs you want to keep while everyone else is starved of RL. None of the Sydney clubs give a f**k about the Queensland Cup or rugby league in rural cities like Cairns and Mackay. They will happily destroy everything outside of Sydney if it helps them gain an advantage over their rivals in the NRL. That's why I am an advocate for rationalising Sydney to reduce the monopoly it holds over the game. The NSWRL clubs have raped and pillaged the rest of the RL universe for over a century and there's no sign of them stopping any time soon.
Lets see hasn't the current structure caused Mackay to drop out?You do realise the Sydney NRL clubs are pushing for this structure, and have the power to get it through by virtue of having nine commissioners on the ARLC, right?

This $ dollar argument dont hold waterThe QLD NRL clubs are just as compliant in this instance.
The fantasy land I was referring to was the laughable suggestion that TV networks will pay big bucks for 3rd tier RL in the summer

In name maybe, but I can't see it retaining any interest or player attraction, and will pretty quickly fade into oblivion.Wouldn't QLD Cup still be QLD cup if Fulltimers aren't playing?

So what is the alternative? The NRL clubs don't do what is best for them player development wise
