NRL set to introduce New Zealand Maori clash with Indigenous All Stars

The bold bit is just bullshit tbh - all cultures are equally relevant FFS

I am really struggling to understand the logic. He's saying that because white NZers and Aussies have been living in Aus/NZ for several generations, that is now their culture. According to the same logic, Indigenous and Maori cultures must no longer exist because they were usurped by Australian/NZ culture at exactly the same time.

My favourite part of this thread has been those who have raised the Racial Discrimination Act without actually understanding the application of the legislation.

Please correct me if I’m wrong but the Maori are Polynesian? If so imagine if it were Indigenous All Stars v Polynesian All Stars – what a line up of players on the field!

Ingles, Chambers, Gagai, Roberts, Thurston, Hopoate, Jennings, Pangai Junior, Taumalolo, Ponga, Holmes, Fifita (he could swap jersey at half time), Mitchell, RTS, Johnson, Luke, Benji..... the list of talent goes on!

That's probably because by the looks of it you are braindead. 'White' is not a culture FFS and I'm not saying what you are inferring at all.

I’d also love to see the NRL acknowledge the role the NZ Maori team played in the games history.

I’m not a historian of the game but I remember hearing a story of a NZ Maori team going over to tour Australia when no one else would because of RU.

Someone else on here might know more...

You're not thinking of the "NZ All Golds" team are you? They toured Australia and Great Britain in 1907 and 1908 with Dally Messenger joining their team after they played NSW. The tour was the brainchild of Albert Baskiville.

Are you saying it is only racist if people from those 2 cultures determine it to be so?

Rubbish.

Both national sides represent all people from their respective countries, as it should be.

This is a good point but the key here is that (i assume) there is no 3rd party preventing a team representing any culture/heritage from competing.

You misunderstood this part, though I didn't word it the best. What I am saying is that Australians descended from a European culture can and do represent that heritage through the European national sides - Ireland, Scotland, Italy, Serbia, Malta etc.

The old European cultures I'm talking about are the ones people mention when they say 'Anglo-Saxon' or 'Celtic', these are thousands of years removed and no longer relevant when it comes to identification. No one identifies as these and very few even know what they refer to. No one would have any idea how much Anglo-Saxon, Celtic, Norman etc are in them. It's like saying we should have a Viking side.

Actually
True history is taught these days.
Schools now have these guys spend two days with students.
http://www.wandana.net.au/

They came to my sons school a couple of weeks ago.
It is a great initiative.

They hold a smoking ceremony
Cultural dancing
Teach about the meaning of “ from country” “lore” and teach the kids how to paint the meanings of their own land where they live.

Plus they teach about white invasion.
Our school has been very proactive in this before anyway.
They thank the traditional land owners at every morning role call.

Aborigines by 22

I remember doing that shit 20+ years ago in primary school. Several times people came in and another time in like year 5 I think we did a day or 2 at some place out bush doing all sorts of shit like tossing boomerangs and spears, dot painting, lighting fires with sticks and roasting a bunch of bogon moths to munch on, they'd make an okay snack with beers from memory.

I want to see a double header with the opening game Serbs vs Germans:

Serbia starring Tom Trbojevic and Jake Trbojevic (Manly), plus the wing-centre pairing of Nikola Cotric (Canberra) and Tom Opasic (Brisbane), plus leads of Intrust Super Cup players

Germany starring the centre-wing combination of James Keinhorst (Leeds) and Kyle Feldt (NQ), as well as second rower Coen Hess (NQ), plus loads of Intrust Super Cup players.

This is it.

People proud of their European heritage can play for European teams, people proud of their Australian Heritage can play for the Roos.

The only difference between the Indigenous/Maori team and any other Rep team is that the All Stars dont have modern geographic boarders. That is literally the only difference.

We dont consider it racist that NZers cant play for Australia. Well you cant play for the Indigenous All Stars unless you have an ansestor who lived here in 1787. easy.

LOL... Spoken like a true "colonial" that's been totally disconnected from Europe...

Try telling the Irish that they aren't Celtic, or the Scots Gaels (another type of Celtic mind you), or the Hungarian parts of Romania that they are the just Romanians, Wallonia that it's no different from Flanders, try telling the Catalans that they are Spaniards and see how that goes...

You really want to start a war? Try telling any Slavic group that they are the same as any of the others...

To be fair a good number of indigenous Australians and Maoris can also rep for those sides, Issac Luke tried to get a game for Ireland at the World Cup.

Yeah nah not quite.

I am extremely proud of my Norwegian and Irish heritage, yet can not play for either side as it was my great grandparents that were born there, my grand parents were born in Australia.
