NRL considering Super investment
The NRL has received an approach from the Rugby Football League seeking an investment in the Super League competition.

NRL club bosses were briefed at Thursday’s CEOs’ conference about the potential for the game to invest in Super League.
NRL chief executive Andrew Abdo has his team crunching the numbers to determine how much, if any, the NRL would be willing to invest to own part of the game in England.
This masthead understands the opportunity could result in the NRL owning 20 to 50 per cent of the Super League.
It’s only early days and the NRL will need to be convinced the investment would not only yield a financial return, but also strengthen rugby league as a global sport.

Money pit. They will need money every year to cover losses

English clubs won’t make the changes required to grow the game

you have two clubs in hull, two in Wigan and 3 in Wakefield

the English clubs will riot if the nrl tries to implement mergers or relocations

once the nrl dominates the pacific then maybe look at England

You just pick out the big clubs or those with potential like Bradford & Wakefield. Gets close to 12 which is number they have now. Find investors for London & other strategic places (damn there was a guy funding team based in Toronto!!). Don't need to deal with system.

Yes but unlikely to happen they have to breakaway from the English game and the rfl

doing a super league on super league would be funny

there are 3 divisions of rugby league in England and there are some good potential expansion teams outside super league which will be left out

murodch couldn’t get the English to agree to mergers

Clubs like Leigh hull kr Featherstone and castleford would do anything they can to stop it

it’s the politics of it that are the problem the idea is a good one

for all that effort what’s in it for the nrl ?

London has a rich backer he’s invested tens of millions of pounds into them already

Wouldn't need mergers. There's club who voted to keep Toronto (wrongly or not) & now are talking to Gould.

International arm of NRL provides a product not limited to a small domestic market. More attractive to streaming & sponsorship.

NRL is biggest rugby comp in world. Should have french rugby level owners in terms of wealth.

Australia is the biggest rugby market in the world at 12 million people

England would be tiny soccer dominates everywhere

remember it’s competing with the premier league

They can sort out their own problems themselves

clubs will die off they will start getting more tv money again

Not for the club game they don’t

the French tv deal is around half our tv deal even allowing for Euro conversion

hooray Henry’s that show up for a union international then the next week go back to supporting their soccer club isn’t meaningful for measuring real support

Huh ? Where did you get that info from ?

The NRL dwarfs the Premiership and Top 14 by every metric....and it's not even close.

Revenue is close.

Wasn't talking domestic comp. Rugby has bigger audience in Europe than NRL anywhere. Not really a relevant point tho...

By audience do you mean people who watch Union ? Or population ?

England has a population of 56m and France 75m...based purely off numbers you'd expect the viewership of Union to be higher than the NRL

What does a Top 14 game rate ? What does a 6 nations game rate ?

we aren’t going to have their international game

if we take over super league it’s the club game and even union is tiny and it would take a lot of money

England cares about soccer and nothing else
