NRL to buy share of Super League

Remember, the discussions are about the NRL buying Superleague, not the whole game in the UK.

Superleague is the top division and is its own commercial business separate to the business the RFL runs. NRL would simply be coming in and running the top division and branding it NRL Europe or whatever, potentially picking the clubs they want, possibly doing away with P&R and growing the brands from there.

RFL would still be the governing body in England and would run grass roots and the national teams.

I think there is room despite soccer and Union to get more our own our game and big clubs over there. I'd pick 9 English clubs (including London), two French clubs and see if anyone was interested in reviving the Wolfpack at the top level.

NRL eventually has 32 teams covering Aus, NZL, PNG, Eng, France and Canada. Commercial potential is huge

NRL should run everything. Lower level becomes like NSW & Qld cup (it already is semi pro). NRL schedules international games, creates rules & collects all broadcast & sponsorship money which is distributed across all top level teams.

Ooh very juicy
SL clubs have run the top tier since 2005, nothing new in this. what people don’t appreciate is rl is a niche sport in uk, a country totally dominated by soccer. The idea somehow nrl can make a difference is laughable. Imagine afl was 10 times bigger than it is now in every city and town in australia, where would rl be in australia? That’s what rl is up against in England. Then throw in a southern class based union friendly media.

people here have zero idea of the sporting landscape in uk and what RL is up against. .

Great. So you're in favour of domestic expansion. Which bid teams should be excepted into the NRL?!

NRL European / Northern Hemesphere Conference

Wigan
St Helens
Leeds
Warrington
Catalans
Hull FC
Hull KR
Bradford
London
Toulouse
Toronto
North Wales Crusaders

Overtime add PNG, Perth, Adelaide, Ipswich, Christchurch, Central Coast and Fiji to the existing NRL and split that into two 12 team conferences. Play everyone in your conference twice (H&A) to crown a conference champion. Then the top 6 from each Southern Hemesphere, join the top four from the Northern Hemesphere for a finals series.

Finals series is:
Quarter Finals 1v16, 2v 15 etc
Semi Finals
Grand Final to crown the NRL World Club Champions

There's no doubt England and even more so France could learn from the NRL.

The NRL doesn't need to own them to help them.
I'm interested in what you think they can learn given the two comps operate in totally different environments?

SL needs to be 14 teams so we can get rid of the stupid loop fixtures.

Yeah, on second thoughts you're right. There's nothing SL or Elite 1 could learn from the NRL.

Just like Kirk's don't need any help from Coca Cola....because you know, they operate in different environments.

poor analogy. A better one would be the Aleague could do better in Aus if it just learnt from what the EPL has done.

you didn't answer the question. NRL has little competition in its market and where it does have serious competition it has achieved little. No teams in perth, adelaide or tasmania, min impact in victoria.
SL is competing against the biggest sport in the world with a local competition thats in the top 3 sports competitions in the world. Good luck turning it around.

Good point about it being super league not the whole game

What happens with clubs outside that want to get in

Not our fault we took on the major sports and beat them whilst the northern union didn’t and let places in the north fall to soccer
