Let's put it in perspective.

They won by 7 on home soil against a side that had numerous Test players out and hadn't played one match in preparation. Leeds played 4 according to the commentators.

If the Dogs had played two matches in preparation, they would have won comfortably.

.

now lets tell the truth...

leeds had a 90% home grown team out on the pitch which is surely a good thing. we had our player of the season in 2004 on the sidelines injured. the bulldogs had 10 gf winners on the field. we didn't play 4 proper warm up games. the leeds club played 4 games but these were played by mostly academy players with 2 or 3 first teamers getting 20 minute run outs.

if leeds had really prepared and were at full strength against the dogs team that showed up we seriously would have put 60 or 70 past them. both teams need to take the games more seriously.

the last time both teams took it seriously wigan won on your soil.

i agree with alot said here, we've got maye 4 strong teams right now but they ARE strong teams and the others are catching up slowly.

forget gb for now. our club level is where it's at for the forseeable future and that's where we'll continue to beat you.

you idiott... the last time a team took it seriously was the Roosters and look how they busted St Helen's...and St Helen's pulled the same trick you can't play trials in England...they had to have a game of touch and grab agains t some other team and St Helen's played the weekend before -

saints are crap, all english clubs are crap, the english national side is crap.

NOW THERE ARE YOUR FACTS.

Like i have said before the Bulldogs at full strengh v a english team e.g Saints, the bulldogs would smash them pretty much any NRL team would because we have a tough, strong league and league teams and we know how to win, the English buckle under presure and cant win shit and thats not just league its any sport.

When will poms learn they suck at all sports and will always be behind the aussies.

   :p :p :p

Lyon, how old are you?

There is no doubt that the NRL is stronger. Our top line players are better (bar Ellery Hanley has there been a Pom who could really claim to the the worlds best in the last 40 years?). OUr clubs have better depth, and so they should - League juniors are about 3 times bigger in Australia than GB.

Having said that, Leeds are deserved victors, as is any winner of the WCC. The game is just like a GF - you are either up to it or you ain't. Canterbury and Leeds have the same match fitness - it's players both competed in the Tri series.

What matters not is which comp is better. What matters most is the failure of BOTH nations to promote this game. I'm sich of hearing about how our clubs are better than the ESL, and how pathetic international League is because the others can't compete (they certainly do in the WCC). Credit to Easts a few years back for taking it seriousl -and a pox on Gus Gould for his childish comments on the concept. There has also been alot of bagging of the concept in the UK.

The WCC and the Tri Nations deserve to be taken seriously outside of Yorkshire and Lancashire. The rest of England would be a start. IMHO, the Pommy clubs have done the League world a huge service by taking this concept seriously.

Unfortunately only a Pommy series win over Oz would kill this, and clearly the Pommy national squad has a phobia about it. Once again, the morons of Rugby League are running the agenda. I thought News Ltd would have the ability to promote whatever spin it wants on the game. Maybe they are!

Thats gold! Mate I hate the doggies like no other, but not even I will stick up for you on this point! If saints played the doggies mid season, saints would be looking at the same score line they copped when they played the roosters in the WCC 2 years ago! FACT! ;-)

i like the way this silly little brittish geezer ignored the call that someone made saying that all the players he listed as stand outs in the ESL were all from australia

he is just a silly little brittish "git" who will eat a piece of shit and love it if it makes him feel a little bit better then someone else

Anyway you look at it though, the NRL supports 16 teams with a high amount of decent through the top 8 and a decent amount of deapth through the rest of the comp... the ESL struggles to maintain 12 teams with any sort of deapth and resort to importing has-beens from Aus and NZ... Also want to talk about skill and deapth? Well have you ever compared Australia's State of Origin between Qld and NSW to Englands version between Lankshire and Yorkshire? would you want to have the British SOO champs play the Australian SOO champs? I didn't think so.

But England does have good enough talent in NL1 and NL2(feeder clubs equivelent)

but the fact is that SL only have 12 teams and the talent in NL1 and NL2 don't have enough teams in top flight league to bring the talent up.

You are comparing the chicken with the egg there.

Imagine how ordinary the ESL would be without aussie and kiwi imports! It'd be funny!

Look, at the end of the day the Dogs and Leeds had been in training for about the same length of time for this match and Leeds won. Next time maybe we could share some of our pre-season training techniques, such as flying to other countries where the climate is better for Rl training, since you seem to be so bad at it. Maybe if you apply youselves correctly, and with a lot of effort you could come over here with half a chance of actually winning the comp. As it is, your club teams are simply not good enough.

Also, Leeds have stated that they want the next one in Aus, so if it isn't then you can write letters of complaint to the NRL.

you dope charge

leeds played 5 trial games leading up to this match. the dogs got wasted all november/ decemember and then started strength and fitness, barely any ball work

leeds were definetly taking this game 1000% more seriously, i mean cripes they played a trial game on boxing day!

thankfully the only player injured was braith and it wasnt bad and this will give us a chance to blood some more rookies in the coming weeks

leeds play a match every boxing day and have done since the war. it had nothing to do with the upcoming wcc. since the switch to summer rugby the game is now a traditional friendly. this year's attendance was over 10,000.

as i've stated countless times leeds did not play 5 trial games. the academy played some games with no more than a few first teamers having short run outs each time.

i've never read or heard such bad sportsmanship in my life. you guys really cannot take defeat at all. the team you sent had 10 gf winners and all your "next wave" superstars playing. it wasn't so long ago you were all saying your young kids could beat our super league teams or that you have such strength in depth we'll never catch you up blah blah...

if the missing players last week remain injured how well will the bulldogs do this year? it'd be interesting to see (and hear your reasons later)

just accept defeat on this occasion and move on like sporting fans.

you all keep referring to saints 38-0 defeat. maybe saints didn't take it seriously that year?? yeah, thought not....

correct me if i'm wrong but didn't the panthers send a full team, trained and prepaired well, ready to annihilate the bulls, then lost???
that never seems to come up much on here ;-)

Funny, I don't recall seeing you around here when we flogged your sorry arses in the Tri-Nations final loiner.

Why do you reckon that is?

You certainly don't accept a win with grace so I'd imagine that you'd accept a loss like that with a mega-tantrum.

And you're talking shite, the Dogs had no preparation and travelled 12,000 miles for a one-off match minus 1/2 their side. If the boot was on the other foot, Leeds wouldn't get within 30 of the Dogs.

i didn't have a computer back then, only just got one. tbh the tri nations defeat was no surprise to anyone. we played ok for a few games but couldn't take things up a level when needed. i blame the coach for his selections, although even if we'd had the strongest team out it'd have been hard against that perfect first half the aussies played.

you see, i'm a gracious loser. i have to be after supporting the rhinos for 25 years.
i'm a gracious winner so long as the losers don't come out with the sort of bull i've read on these forums the last few days.

i came on here initially to see if all aussies were as ungracious as those posting on the uk forums.

you are... (mostly)
