FOURTY FOUR TO FOUR!

I'll say it again. The SL has some excellent sides in it that could give anyone in the NRL a decent shake. Conversely, more than half of the teams are composed of absolute trash.

Absolute Trash with a 44% win Record against Top 8 sides...How many 3rd last teams in the SL can claim that?

Last year London beat Wigan, St Helens and drew with Leeds and still came 3rd from bottom.

What About Last year?

Face it...Your League, barring 5 sides (Albeit an improvement of the one side 15 years ago & the four 4 years ago) is composed of complete crap, whose better elements inevitably drift to the top clubs!

The Evident lack of 44% is still there. That makes it what? 2.5 matches from 12?

Warrington will be a team to watch this year, and Wakefield will still be good. They were by no means a one player team last year. The top six will be very hard to predict this year.

I hope the above in spoken in jest, because this is the sort of attitude from the English Rugby League fraternity that can only do harm to the progression of their game.

Each year, the SuperLeague premiers come into this "very prestigious" World Club Challenge match well prepared, on their home soil, and with the attitude that it's the biggest match on the Rugby League calander - and as a result, much more often than not, they have walked away with a victory.

The English then hail their League, their standard of fitness and skills, and their depth as of a very high standard and comparable to the NRL in many ways.

But of course, that isn't the case. A full-strength and equally prepared Top 4 NRL side would easilly account for any British team, and a Top 8 NRL side would certainly be in with a chance at least.

So the English continue to fool themselves that their game is of a high standard, but come the end of each year, they are severly put back in their place with the games that matter - Australia v Great Britain.

And you need look not further than recent times to see exactly how "good" the British game is going...

1st Tri-Nations, 1999 - Smashed.
Rugby League World Cup, 2000 - Smashed.
Ashes Series, 2001 - Went down with just 1 win.
Ashes Series, 2003 - Beaten 3-0 by a very under-strength Kangaroos squad.
2nd Tri-Nations, 2004 - Smashed 44-4 in the Final infront of their home crowd.

And along the way they set a records for consecutive amount of home losses to Australia (7), and biggest losing margin to Australia on home soil (40). Not to mention, on one of the very rare occassions that the have visited Australia, were smashed 64-10 at Aussie Stadium.

On top of all this, English Clubs continue to import Australians and therefore taking away an opportunity for a young Englishman to get a stint in the top grade.

These are all contributing factors to why the English SuperLeague isn't within the distance of an AFL conga-line to the NRL.

Cheers.

Those sides are all capable of spending fully to thier cap and capable of atleast holding on to most of thier talent. How many clubs in England can spend to the cap again?

And long may it continue that the Big 5 might one day be a big 6 and a big 7 and so on.

But the NRL is still a better comp than the ESL for the forseeable future.

im not on about the national team, the reason our national is so bad because over here rugby league only just manages to make it in papers or on the tv, football, rugby union and even cricket are bigger than league in our country

Crap.

Your saying that media coverage effects what talent a team has and how it performs?

Your national team is crap because your League has poor depth in comparison to the NRL and your top players aren't exposed to tough matches virtually every week.

well put it one way nobody likes or plays rugby league down south, apart from the odd few the reason for this is that schools dont play it, and its never got any media coverage. its only us northeners who have took to the game
