So bacially you don't want conferences
No, I’m not against conferences. Where did I say that?
I’m open to them, just not that model in the article.

I’m in favour of conferences when we get to twenty clubs but I don’t agree at all with a nsw conf and a rest conf.
I’ve posted my idea before for two conferences that splits Sydney but keeps the main rivallaries . Let’s be honest sharks v panthers doesn’t draw a crowd any more than sharks v Storm (probably less in reality)
Just reinforces public perception of rugby leagues as a sydney comp with a few add ons. Split the city with rivalries that actually mean something and that will boost crowds, not based on some mythical believe that dragons v manly is more interesting than dragons v broncos.
You want to create momentum for superleague2 seems a good way to go about it as non Sydney conf feeling neglected and all the media fta etc getting sucked up by Sydney conference
Arthur Summons Conference
Panthers
Eels
Bulldogs
Wests
Knights
Broncos
Titans
Cowboys
Brisbane2
Qlnd5
Norm Provan conference
Dragons
Rabbits
Sharks
Roosters
Sea-Eagles
Raiders
Warriors
Storm
Pirates
Adelaide or NZ2
These conferences have no meaning
they represent the main rivalries in Sydney that actually make a difference to crowds, plus rivalries in qlnd and as you just told me potentially Nz, and I could see perth v melbourne becoming a major one. Much more interesting than an all sydney conference with clubs with no real rivalry only together because they are in the same city, perth v souths, dragons would both draw some of the biggest crowds as well.
Just random groupings. Championship for Sydney title would be a big attraction. Even most ardent opponent in this thread would agree.
Ideally other conference would be qld title but alas...
Switch Manly and Canterbury and i feel that grouping would be better, making it a North-West vs South-East geographical split of Sydney/PacificJust reinforces public perception of rugby leagues as a sydney comp with a few add ons. Possibly put Canberra in the Sydney conference and then you could add Perth and a North Queensland team to the outer Sydney conference to what has already been proposed and have 2 x 10 conferences. Just saying

North QLD, do you mean the Cairns/PNG bid? and no to Canberra, as they are in the ACT, make it Newcastle and it becomes a NSW compPossibly put Canberra in the Sydney conference and then you could add Perth and a North Queensland team to the outer Sydney conference to what has already been proposed and have 2 x 10 conferences. Yes i reckoned this, from about 6 months ago, saying a north/south border split of sydney breaking up each conferenceInstead of a Sydney and Non Sydney Conference system, maybe have a Northern Conference - Cowboys, Broncos, Brisbane2, Titans, Knights, Either Roosters or Tigers, Manly, Eels and Panthers. The rest make up the Southern Conference. You will still have Sydney derbies. Not too sure about the Conference system finals though. But if they do persist with that, at least there is still the possibility of an all Sydney G.F. Though no all QLD G.F. would be possible. Which is probably the main motive for this conference idea, seeing that Sydney is locked in indefinitely for the Grand Final venue.
Quote
“Who would be opposed to it?
The teams in Sydney would be thrilled. It will generate more interest, greater crowd numbers and potentially allow the NRL to sell Sydney conference games at a premium to broadcasters.
The teams in the outer-Sydney conference may not be as ecstatic. They will have to travel more and crowd figures may take a hit. The four Queensland teams might not be as heavily impacted. The Warriors may welcome the rivalry but there may also be a financial impact on the club, as well as competition for juniors.”
This is always understated in this conversation and should be the reason it gets a big fat no.
