I was very impressed with the improvement of Parramatta.

You'd never have known it from the vague and lacklustre Nine commentary.

Is this a consequence of not being at the ground?
1000%. I've made comments as such in the media threads. For whatever your thoughts on Rabs are/were, he always insisted on being at the grounds, binoculars in use, windows open if possible so that he could feel the game as well as see it, and his tone would reflect that.

Today, all the commentary comes from the Ch9 studios in Sydney. A sterile studio nowhere near the atmosphere generated by the crowd of the game being shown. And sadly, it's obvious.

Apparently the lead for Cowboys/Dragons and Roosters/Broncos was Anthony Maroon. I'm guessing an older bloke.

Several times last weekend he blurted out "that pass looked forward" when said pass looked not even close to forward. Some of these NRLW commentators come across like casual fans randomly pulled from the crowd.

During Raiders/Knights Phil Gould said of the refs "they jump at shadows". Nine's commentators and pundits are even worse. They see more phantom forward passes, knock-ons and obstructions than the officials. A game wouldn't go for longer than a few seconds if they were in charge.

Maroon isn't too bad and probably good for the NRLW as Souffs aren't playing :) .
Anything Gould says should be ignored, if its vaguely right then there is generally some other motive or he didn't mean it.. I can't believe he is allowed to commentate with his Bulldog affiliation.

I am coming around a bit more to the Fox ladies Tarsha Gale and Jo whatshername. (old age kicking in here) but one thing that annoys me is when a player does something then according to the commentators that's what they are known for. Even when its probably the first time they have done it :)

Raiders v Sharks was a turgid affair.

Ugly roll-balls seem to be permissible this year. Coaches must have been told to expect no sanction. Added to which, Kasey Badger has a bad habit of calling Held too early, leaving little opportunity for offloads and second phase.

Net result was -

One-out carry, instant call of Held, place the ball and walk over it, rinse and repeat five times. Akin to Touch Football, only with heavier contact and less ball movement.

Demonstrates that a quicker game is not necessarily a better game.

Caught the St George v Knights match and could’t stop watching it . Great shape in attack from the previous winless Saints , and rugged defence from both teams. The quality of the game took me by surprise . The NRL is definitely on a winner with the WNRL.

This crap must be contagious. The Jess Sergis try v Tigers was ruined by the commentator shouting "that looked forward". Think this one's called Ben Homer. Meant Olivia Kernick got no credit for a brilliant defence-splitting short pass.

On the upside, the comp was blown open by the Dragons beating the Knights and the Broncos big win over the Titans.

Langlands Park looks a good venue for NRLW.

And yet they all miss the other forward passes.
I can't imagine the Titans playing that badly again. The game was terrible esp the first half, very slow and all the broncos did was upped the pace s little and ran hard. I don't think Brisbane can keep relying on teams to defend that badly every week.
It still is a. Open comp as you say

Strengthening pathways was one of the stated aims of aligning the HN Premiership with the NRLW season. Opportunities for young players in HN squads to gradually step up to NRLW.

So why have the Sharks just signed a 36 year-old Rugby Sevens "star"?

Tough loss Tigers. Four straight defeats just reflects the strength of the comp.

I quite like Brenton Speed but his remark at the kick-off that Parra "start in a shocking manner" was typically lazy glass-half-empty media-muppet negativity. Why not credit the kicker with a smart play perfectly-executed?

Gotta love Kennedy Cherrington. Glad she wasn't banned again, after the Round 1 kerfuffle.

I thought the Raiders were really hard done by. Several questionable tackles by the Broncos went ignored by the officials. One blatant hip drop that should have had the bronco in the bill. Not even a penalty luckily the player was not seriously injured and they scored soon after. But that was not an isolated incident.
