I think this team is closer than they look, I know that Brisbane game was bad & got away from them, but if they can unearth a top 5 prop and get a bit more strike into the backline that would elevate the foundation of what’s there a lot. There are a lot of players in this team where you’re very happy if they’re about the 2nd/3rd best middle or outside back - everyone’s job gets way easier if the best middle is a Millie Boyle rather than Tiana Davison.

And Finau just had a debut game as a 19 year old where she switched from back row to centre 25 mins in - 114 metres, 7 tackle busts and a line break/try. She looks like that strike outside back we need. Should only get better and better.

I think we're comfortably team #3, on paper at least. That's where we will probably finish too if favourites win next week.

One thing we really need to do is go back to creating some plays though. I know the crash play is in vogue in NRLW where you have some gigantic props that can barge their way over, but we're overusing it.

Missed the game yesterday. Looking at the stats Prop rotation was hilarious again. Tinao backed up her 18 minute 2 runs for 19m (9 Tackles) with a 12 minute stint of 1 run for 11m (7 Tackles). This week we were saved by Karpani coming on to make somewhat of an impact in her 20 minutes.

Bit of an upset in the NRLW with the Broncos winning 50 - 4 against the 3rd placed Cowboys. Upset Cowboy fans anyway. Win our game tomorrow we finish 3rd.

Not great when a full-strength 2nd vs 3rd game a week before the finals looks like a training run, but doubt the NRL will care. Not like crowds are big enough to make a difference if they get even lower. Roosters & Broncos being dominant is probably legitimately best for business from their perspective.

More disappointing is the fact the Knights own mismanagment is what took us out of that conversation. The NRL didn't force them to replace Griffiths with a coach who put himself offside with the whole squad in his first season due to overworking the players. Didn't force the Knights into an untenable situation with Upton, nor force them to allow her to leave for nothing. Didn't force Johnston or Southwell to leave - both to teams in similar or worse situations, not the big dogs.

Put Upton & CJ back in the team and the Knights are probably still premiership favourites. They cost themselves that.

Not convinced it was anything we did that sent Upton packing. A lot of rumour around why she left but even back in 2023 in interviews she would regularly talk about missing QLD. And as far as I know we wouldn't have lost CJ if we knew were Upton was going to reneg. Is there anything more to that than hindsight? Only point I agree on there is letting her go for nothing in return.

The mismanagement point definitely rings true for the coaching though. We move Griffiths to NSW Cup coach seemingly against his wishes and first chance he gets he moves back to coaching to NRLW, just not with us.

Letting Hannah go was the right call.

Something I haven't seen mentioned much is the Roosters are also missing the best prop in the game this year for the same reason, and will still possibly go through the whole year undefeated. Heh.

Upton requested a release from the Knights and the Knights granted it. Whether it was the official reason (family) or one of the rumoured reasons her staying at the Knights was evidently untenable. Wasn't the NRL forcing us to hand her over to the Broncos as was the point of my post.

Fair call on Johnston, more so talking about overall than this season specifically.
