Have you ever thought that the reason why we didn't keep Peach, is because he didn't want to stay?

We offered him good money, he went to Penrith got their offer, accepted it, and never returned to us with Penrith counter offer. Thats a fact.

You can piss and moan about Flanno and co not retaining his services, but the club did what it could.

The same with Bukuya, Townsend ect.

There was no way we could match the offer the Warriors gave for Boogie, and Townsend left for opportunity. An opportunity he didn't earn at Cronulla so he has put it on himself to break into a team that is below us on the ladder. Good on him.
Have you ever thought why a young kid who loves the club didn't want to stay?
And would drive to the mountains to get a game.

Because the true word in the lower grades would be if you want to play first grade you get out.

Pure and simple.

Imagine having the class of Peach and seeing Highno, Gibbs, Flash, Beau, J Wright and so on and so on come to the club and the only time you get a run is at SOO time.

He KNOWS he won't see first grade at our club. He KNOWS because Flanno cannot develop young players.
He spent a decade under Sticky who is clueless in this area.
Neither could Roper.

Langy was the last bloke who could spot talent and utilise it.

We can certainly piss and moan about Flanno because his selection of Chad cost us a game this week and his non selection of this young talent in peach highlights a stunted understanding of what makes sporting franchises great.

Do you know he loves the club???

Most talented kids who play the game at a rep level don't even watch footy. They are sick of it being everything. Some of the 15,16,17 year olds train 5 days a week and play on the weekend. The last thing they want is to watch and then support a team.

How often do you see the under 20's kids at shark park wandering around after their game without even looking at the nrl game being played?

If you were to ask any of them, all they want to do is play first grade. They don't care who for and they don't care where they have to go.

They all know that if and when they make it, they can always say they were a panthers fan as a kid for example, and they are so happy to be at the club they supported. It's all bull shit.

During my time at the club, it was so hard to get any of the junior reps and 20's players to watch video. Then you would bring out a clip and say, have a look at what cherry Evans does here. He couldn't do that without the centres and the back rowers running these lines and standing in that position after the front rower got to his knees and did a quick play the ball. We would ask, who saw this on Monday night or Friday or Saturday. Maybe 1 or 2 would say I watched it.

Footballers (use that term loosely) or should I say athletes don't follow a team. They just play.

I can't relate to the guys you're talking about.

To make it to that level you would have to grow up having a love for the sport and the tenacity to train and do what it takes to make the grade.

If you can find a kid who does so, yet has no interest in the greats of the sport - or an interest in watching their exploits, well - he'd be in the minority.

Personally I lived and breathed it and that pushed me to play senior sport - league and soccer.

How do I know he loves the place?
What - you reckon he'd rather play away from the Sharks after the success he's had?...playing with Todd Carney/Gallen/Beau?.......and his uncle being a legend in the place?

Yeah, you're probably right - I bet he's always had a passion to be a chocolate soldier.

Not what I was saying. He might have a passion to succeed, just not any particular club.

An example is the two new warriors. One of them lived and breathed footy. The other was just natural. One of them has succeeded the other not so much. You decide which one is which.

I lived and breathed it, I wanted to be a shark. That only got so far. Had a few trials with the drags because in the end I wanted to be a footballer.
Football gods obviously didnt like it, cause I did a syndeamosis and tore some other ligs.

So basically what I saying is, everyone goes for the opportunity and the cash. Whether it be work or sport that's all.

I don't think Gallen supported the sharks growing up in Parramatta but we gave him the opportunity and he took it. How many tradesman stay at the place they did there apprenticeship at.

That is a bit different as an apprenticeship doesn't create passion in a person so much as sport.

Loyalty is pretty much dead in the game, so players don't share the love for a club that the fans do.

I think our players do seem to be passionate about our club, so hopefully that can eventually translate into a premiership.

This is an intelligent, informed post. If you haven't spent any time around a top level footy club (and I doubt many of you have) read it with an open mind and learn something.

I would argue a kid who watched his Uncle play for a club, and then spent a few years playing there himself, would have a preference to stay. But yes any young ambitious man will take a better opportunity. That is not football that is life.

Perhaps it was money, which we all want, but opportunity appears the main motivation, I am not privy to any conversation but I bet first grade opportunity was discussed with Penrith.

Why do we expect footballers to be different to us.

I work in IT, someone offers me more money, and better opportunities for advancement, I take it. Applies to all employment, pays to be a preferred employer.

Anyways I wish Tyrone luck and hope he returns one day.

Murdoch must hate us so much he won't even show the reggies play. He must cheer when we get a free to air game.

Doubt Rupert is bothered too much. It was always the 1.00 clock game on Fox. NSWRL gave us the 3.00 clock. Probably watched by me and 200 others.:)
