Jennings
J Morris/Lawrence
Carney
Pearce
Weyman
Ennis
Poore
Creagh
Hindmarsh (c)
O'Donnell

Watmough
Lewis
Learoyd Lahrs
Douglas/Gallen

Seen that there is a call for Hindmarsh to be captain. He is ready made for the job and what Origin is all about. We pick too many players who want to play pretty, and pretty doesn't win Origin.

So you would drop Watmough to the bench after the series he had last year. Bloody hell.
Weyman starting means you need two props on the bench cos the big man runs out of puff.
Gidley has got to be the utility. I'm not totally against the Hindmarsh thing but he looked tired and off the pace the last time he was picked a few years ago.

hindmarsh has bucketloads of something that most NSWelshmen don't currently possess... and that's heart. i'd pick him any day, and he'd make a great captain for the blues.

having creagh starting instead of watmough is a bit of a laugh, though.

If watmough isnt in the starting lineup (80 minute player) i would leave him out of the origin team and pick another prop.

FMD Watmough has to be there, he pretty much won the game for us last year

Totally agree, but I wouldn’t have him as a bench player, a few have suggested Hindmarsh in the team, with Gallen and Creagh all these guys are 80 minute players. So if Watmough was picked I would pick him in the starting line up only

NSW needs props on the bench, no more of these utility players and second rowers, get some size on the bench

Can anyone explain to me why Jennings keeps popping up. he does nothing against decent teams. Did nothing in any rep games he played last year. The bloke plays well against rubbish teams, but never lifts. Plus he goes missing when his team needs him and he can't defend

My NSW backline at the moment:-

1. Hayne (Universes greatest player)
2. C Lawrence (plays centre but has pace for the wing and can defend)
3. J Morris (a definite)
4. B Scott (no one will get through him)
5. B Morris (a definite)
6. J Soward (kicking game is brilliant, needed against Qld)
7. T Carney (although I would like to see him continue to play well, especially against a Storm/Dragons team, his form after 2 weeks warrants consideration)

And if Pearce continues to play well, based on the combination with Carney, shift Soward to the bench and start Carney and Pearce together.

I disagree that Jennings disappears in big games, he looked pretty good in the All-Stars game and has made plenty of quality centres look pretty silly.

But I do agree that he should not be definite for the Blues team, he does disappear when we need him most (ala Peanuts) and he still has some defensive issues.

BTW theres no way Scott and Soward will be picked...

11. Hindmarsh
12. Watmough
13. Gallen

14. Creagh/Paterson/TLL/Other Impact 2nd Rower

i fail to see the problem with this. we're obviously not going to get the 8 or so backrowers that would go well in origin into the team at once.

Fair enough my Scott selection is a bit out there (although have you seen him play the first two weeks? He has been brilliant in attack and defence), but why do you say that about Soward?
The bloke has the best kicking game in the comp. Is easily one of the fastest players in teh comp, and had a blinder of a season last year.
Before you say he went missing in the finals, he actually didnt play that bad against the broncos. The rest of the team were rubbish is what hurt.
He gets a bad wrap from everyone cause of his alleged 2 milks. Fair enough the one against the dogs is iffy (although funny they go on about that 12 months after the fact, yet they have almost stopped whinging about te 6m forward pass on the weekend. I know which one was the bigger ref blunder), but his other milk was when he got clobbered by Titans centre across the face.
Not to mention Scott Prince wrote an article about Soward milking, pot calling the kettle black anyone...

I actually like Soward very much and think he would be great for us in Origin, I think his kicking game alone would be invaluable. I just don't think he will be picked because he is too small, they like picking big players for Origin.

We need to pick 2nd rowers on the bench that can also fill in as props, guys like TLL, Waterhouse, etc

Laugh all you want, doesnt make it any less true though.

The guy was sh1t last year in Origin last year (cost us game 1 with some timely errors), he is a fullback not a utility. He played an ok game in the Four Nations final however Luke Lewis had a much better campaign and is a genuine utility who can cover all positions on the field barring prop.

Gidley is one of the most overrated players of our generation IMO

Cant agree with you mate. Gidley is a better option than Lewis in all positions barring backrow.

However, thats not to say that I think the NSW need a player on the bench that can cover the backline. A specialist hooker would probably suit best.

i've never seen luke lewis play fullback, halfback or hooker. goes alright in those positions, does he?

pick lewis as a wide running, ballplaying forward. he's even less of a utility than gidley. you don't carry utilities to play in the centres or at wing. ffs, you blokes call US muppets. lewis can reasonably cover lock, second row, centre and 5/8th. gidley can reasonably cover halfback, 5/8th, fullback, hooker - the entire spine - without any disruption or reshuffle to the team. that is what you really want in a utility.

Chances are there won't be an injury to the spine however. You're then left with a pointless player on the bench who is inevitably put on the field when he doesn't need to be. In the likely event there is no injury, Lewis still plays a useful role in the forwards.

There is a risk of injury to the spine, but I'd rather have a useful forward on the bench and reshuffle the side if necessary. If the fullback gets injured, Lewis can go to the wing and put a winger at fullback. If the halfback or hooker gets injured, the other half can move to that position and Lewis can play five eigth.
