NSW Origin

If it was me, I wouldn’t be selecting Cleary for Origin next year. I’m not saying he’s the reason we lost, but I honestly don’t think he’s an elite playmaker. And you need that at origin level. Luke Keary would be my 7, probably with Wighton as the 5/8.

He’s a very good halfback, but he’s not elite. I don’t look at it as him playing badly, although he did in game 1. His effort is almost always there, but I do think NSW can do better with Keary at 7.

Just admit it, you do not rate him? This Nathan bashing is inappropriate, and wrong.

Who do you pick then?

Cleary
He cops a lot.And I am one of his critics in that I want to see him take the line on more
But we need to remember he is 22 and played behind a pack that got run over.Cherry Evans looked good last night but was missing game 2 when his forwards lost the battle
Our Penrith boys did well in a game the team was going backwards all night

I said in that post, Keary.

Keary might wear the no.6 at club level but he plays like a first receiver. Wighton would be my 5/8.

And then of course we pick better centres which will help. Probably Turbo and Crichton next year.

Keary ticks all the boxes. Has a club combo with Teddy which helps. He should of got the whole series

Yep. His time will come but he needs time away to work on his game. No variety whatsoever.

Perfect example take those early kicks for JAC that worked in game 2. That is the sort of thing that changes momentum. There were no inside balls that worked well. Was all one out stuff. Stuff likely comes in a couple of years

He is what he is, he’s never going to have variety. No matter how hard he works on it.

Nathan is an effort footy player. He’s all about doing the fundamentals well. But he’s never going to be some razzle dazzle half.

We saw in Game 2 that he can be effective without the razzle dazzle. For me he needs to do it more often in big games

Yeah but he needs the forwards to win the middle, that’s not always going to happen.

Obviously every half is going to be better if their forwards dominate, but halves that can create more have a better chance if the forwards don’t.

A line break assist a try assist, 40/20, 2 tackle breaks, 85% tackle efficiency with at least 1 try saver, 600 kicking metres behind a beaten pack, 1 forced drop out. In a team with 43% possession and 400 less run metres. QLD's entire kick metres is 600 Vs his personal 634. He tried his guts out in a team that played garbage. not many halves would do better under the circumstances.

Wasting your time. The Nathan Cleary is a 9 fan club won't ever be swayed

Obviously people have their reasons and I hate that I'm now the conflict guy on the forum this isn't meant to be mean but I always hated that argument. I really couldn't see him at 9 and at half he is moulding into a great 7.

As I said, I didn’t think he played badly and he always tries hard. I just think NSW can do better with Keary.

There were several opportunities last night for a 7 with more game vision to take advantage of.

So you don't think there was anything he could of done better? The last 10 mins especially the game was there for the taking

Look at it from this perspective. How many non Panthers fans see Nathan as an elite half?

Everyone sees Munster as an elite 5/8, everyone sees Tedesco as an elite fullback. But hardly anyone sees Nathan as an elite 7.

Are all those people just haters, or maybe seeing it through non panthers eyes gives them a better perspective?

There's always something you can do better. I don't think Keary is much more succesful for this game. He certainly doesn't have Cleary's kicking game so the field position game becomes harder,

HE's certainly not elite yet. there is bias and circle jerk happening around Cleary right now though from other fans plus some outright lying.

He has won 3 premierships and a CCM.. what more does he need to do to prove himself
