Look at it from this perspective. How many non Panthers fans see Nathan as an elite half?

Everyone sees Munster as an elite 5/8, everyone sees Tedesco as an elite fullback. But hardly anyone sees Nathan as an elite 7.

Are all those people just haters, or maybe seeing it through non panthers eyes gives them a better perspective?
He's 22 playing the hardest position on the field. Everyone would take him as their 7 if they are honest

He has won 3 premierships and a CCM.. what more does he need to do to prove himself

There's always something you can do better. I don't think Keary is much more succesful for this game. He certainly doesn't have Cleary's kicking game so the field position game becomes harder,

HE's certainly not elite yet. there is bias and circle jerk happening around Cleary right now though from other fans plus some outright lying.

Keary is easily a better playmaker, without question.

Why would all the fans lie? I don’t understand that. To me the problem is Nathan was selected very young, lots of praise was heaped upon him and he simply hasn’t lived up to those expectations. It’s really not even his fault, he’s just not that type of footy player people had hoped for. He’s very good at what he does, but he’s limited in what he can do.

He’s 23 and has played 110 games of elite footy.

Why would all those fans lie? They really hate Cleary that much? Maybe you can’t see it because you’re looking at things with Panthers glasses on?

Judging by comments on Reddit and social media yes. People are at times lying about game 3 to say he was worse than reality.

Yes BUT how badly the team played last night would've cancelled any difference between them. Cleary is actually the better half to play off the back foot due to his superior kicking game. Keary can't match that.

I added more to my post above.

But I disagree about him being the better off the back foot, yeah Cleary has the kicking advantage, but Keary’s vision advantage is much better. That’s what last night needed more. Someone who could get the outside backs into gaps.

Which is better than what DCE, Cooper Cronk, and Johnathan Thurston, were.

I wasn't comparing but now you brought it up

JT had 1 premiership. 1 GF loss and still playing Origin by that stage

DCE. Won a premiership and played for Aust by 23

Cronk is the interesting one. He was eased into it more then the others although still played in a GF and was halfback of the year by 23

That last 10 mins was were they game could of been won for NSW but no one stepped up. Attacking the line with 12 defenders

Yeah but he needs the forwards to win the middle, that’s not always going to happen.

Obviously every half is going to be better if their forwards dominate, but halves that can create more have a better chance if the forwards don’t.
Not so much win the middle, but be reasonably competitive and not give him the kick on his own 30 time and time again.

People tend to go harder when a player is hyped up more than they should be. Ponga and Hayne copped the same.

I agree with that, the truth is likely in the middle here.

As I’ve said myself, I think he’s very good. I’m glad we have him, I just think he’s not absolute top shelf.

How can people think Keary would definitely be better? He didn't do anything in Origin 1 where the teams were more evenly matched with 50% possession. Except for being an ineffective defender.

Nathan didn't do any better in game 1 except in defence. But was MOTM game 2 and then in game 3 behind a badly beaten forward pack managed to have more impact than he has in every Origin game except game 2.

He had
1 try assist
1 linebreak assist
1x 40/20

Meanwhile in the side with 57% possession and dominating field position...

Munster had 1 try assist. 0 linebreak assists.
DCE had 1 linebreak. 0 assists.

Queensland dominated field position and possession yet their halves struggled to turn it into points. They both played very well but what would they do with 43% possession? What would Keary do?

The expectations of what is possible and probable in a side with 43% possession are a bit unrealistic. What halfback has ever won an Origin match behind a badly beaten forward pack and 43% possession? Has it ever happened? Probably has i guess sinceit nearly did last night.

At any rate... If dominating games with 43% ball was such a realistic expectation...why did Thurston or Joey ever lose a match? Even the greatest halves require support from their team. That has always been the case.

Keary is a proven winner. Cleary is not yet at this point in time Keary is the best half in NSW

Obviously people have their reasons and I hate that I'm now the conflict guy on the forum this isn't meant to be mean but I always hated that argument. I really couldn't see him at 9 and at half he is moulding into a great 7.
Nathan is getting closer to being a razzle dazzle player all the time. Spending time with Maloney, Luai and origin halves is slowly filling up his bag of tricks. He produced more rabbits out of the hat this year than last and will likely produce even more next year. Admittedly, it doesn't come naturally to him - he has to work hard at it, but he's getting there. I was one of his critics at the start of this year but he has impressed me. I'm happy to take a second (or third) helping of humble pie for those unable to eat it.
