It has all the makings of a Moses selection in the halves imo. Freddy has had a hard on him for him ever since coaching him in the World Cup

if Freddy has the confidence in him, then I'm all for it. Any other player than Cleary will have a tonne of pressure on him though, purely because he's not the consensus selection, and the choice will be pillared. It's the NSW way.

I prefer to think of it as advanced aggressive motivation techniques.

1. James Tedesco
2. Josh Ado-Carr
3. Latrell Mitchell
4. Euan Aitken
5. Tom Trbojevic/Blake Ferguson/Nick Cotric
6. Nathan Cleary/Luke Keary
7. James Maloney
8. David Klemmer
9. Damien Cook
10. Reagan Campbell-Gillard
11. Boyd Cordner
12. Tyson Frizell
13. Jake Trbojevic

14. Tyrone Peachey/Cameron McInnes/Jack Bird
15. Paul Vaughan
16. Jack De Belin
17. Tariq Sims/Angus Crichton/Nathan Brown/Wade Graham

theres 25 players in that list, I'd be surprised if the 17 that will be chosen is not from amongst those 25.

I like the cut of your jib - that's not a bad team

I would definitely go

1. James Tedesco
2. Josh Ado-Carr
3. Latrell Mitchell
4. James Roberts
5. Nick Cotric
6. James Maloney
7.
8. David Klemmer
9. Damien Cook / Cameron McInnes
10. Reagan Campbell-Gillard
11.
12. Tyson Frizell
13. Jake Trbojevic

14. Damien Cook / Cameron McInnes
15. Paul Vaughan
16. Jack De Belin
17. Wade Graham

But then I get stuck
Other than Maloney, there is no one in the halves who has stood out from NSW
Cleary has been injured and Keary floats in and out of games. Luke Brooks has improved, but Origin improvement? Yeah-nah.

Cordner should be a no brainer, but he has been flat and out of sorts
Who else do we put in the back row? We could put Klemmer on the bench and De Belin into the starting line up but that means Woods comes into the team aaaand nah thanks.

Still up for grabs imo

Wayde Graham is unlikely to be fit for Origin 1 due to his dodgy hamstring. He's listed as being out till either Round 12 or 13. So if you pick him there is a chance you would with him not having played for a month or so.

Even then, if you want to knock Cordner's form to date, Graham's was worse when he got injured.

As to your bench, are you planning on bring on Debelin to play for Jake T? I only say that as neither Jake nor Jack have played in positions other than lock or the back row. As such I think it would leave us light in the front row. With the pace Origin is played, I think it would be suicidal to go in with only 1 specialist prop on the interchange bench.

So Woods for Graham then - do we have many more choices?
Why did Fifita choose to opt out?

Cordner is probably still the best second rower - who else is there?

Still don't have a half back?

Question - Ryan James - Born in Tweed Heads - represented QLD in junior football
Who is he eligible for?

Fifita opted out as he want to be able to play for Tonga this year. If he wanted to play for NSW, he would have had to commit to playing for Australia (that is part of the criteria if you want to play for either NSW or Qld).

As to Ryan James, as this article from 2017 makes very clear, he's eligible for NSW - https://www.theroar.com.au/2017/05/04/ryan-james-country-origin-not-far-off-mark-blues/

Didn’t watch nrl 360 but my mate did and he reckons filter pretty much confirmed A halves pairing of Moses/Keary for game 1 and nothing can change his mind

Reckons Maloney’s defense is not up to it. Gee up right?

Lets just pick the biggest downhill skier in the game who drops his bundle when things don’t go his way, not to mention been very average this year

If this is true he should be sacked right away.

I’ve heard Fittler confirming Maloney as a starter. I’ve seen it in a few sources this year.

It’s just such a bonehead decision. Maloney is a winner, won man of the match in origin before and has been the best half in the comp. Sharp shooting kicking as well. Look how well Penrith are playing this year, Maloney being the leader. Yeah he can’t defend but Lockyer couldn’t either and Thurston is so overrated there it isn’t funny. Moses on the other hand has been nothing but trouble and doesn’t get on with teammates from reports.

I love you Brad but this just reeks of personal favouritism

Hoooops ‘has it on good authority’ that’s it will be Moses and Keary.

Maloney is a terrible defender. No doubt. But Moses is too.

The difference is Maloney is in terrific form and thrives under pressure. This series should be easy to win. But if our coach is seriously wanting to pick an out of form Moses to partner with a wannabe Queenslander in Keary then we're f**ked.

Maloney needs to be there.
