Really excited about the Maloney/Cleary combination. They’ve been nothing short of superb this year. Maloney has been one of the form playmakers and his experience in big games will be crucial to the newcomers. Cleary has a very mature head on him and I believe he will handle Origin well. He doesn’t play like he is 20 he plays like has years of experience under his belt.

For blooding to many newcomers, an advantage though will be that Brad Fittler has spent a lot of years around the development NSW squads, City Origin and under 18 Origin side so he knows these guys very well and has had a role in their development so he would know much more about them then what we do.

The drunken pedo bear lookalike has blocked me on twitter. So someone else will have to check to see if he actually did post this.

I like the team. Its not perfect but usually i disagree with about half of it. Wouldve preferred Aitken and Cotric. No Graham/Jackson/Woods/Ferguson/Dugan is brilliant.

Freddy talks about the need for defence in the side but looks to put Turbo on the wing / centres and no Euan Aitken , Makes sense.

Surely NSW have got it through their heads that you have to SCORE points to beat QLD. NSW have picked defensive centres for the last few years...how has that worked? Not as if Mitchell or Roberts can't defend and they are miles better than Aitken in attack.

The predicted team on NRL.com looks pretty good besides the sack of shit that's captaining the team. Hopefully next year we can f**k him off, move Frizell to the left edge, Crichton on the right and starting and have Jordan McLean or another good prop on the bench.

Record 11 debutants in NSW coach Brad Fittler’s new Blues era

PHIL ROTHFIELD, DEAN RITCHIE, The Daily Telegraph
May 27, 2018 9:38pm

BLUES coach Brad Fittler has omitted Kangaroos forward Jake Trbojevic from the New South Wales Blues starting line-up in a team that will include a record 11 debutants for the opening State of Origin game.

The Daily Telegraph has obtained a leaked copy of the new-look team which reveals the biggest shake-up in Origin history, and the surprise selection of St George Illawarra forward Jack De Belin at lock, ahead of Trbojevic.

The only six players to survive from last year’s series loss are fullback James Tedesco, five-eighth James Maloney, prop Dave Klemmer, skipper Boyd Cordner, edge forward Tyson Frizell and Trbojevic.

Making their debuts alongside De Belin will be Tom Trbojevic, Josh Addo-Carr, James Roberts, Latrell Mitchell, Nathan Cleary, Reagan Campbell-Gillard, Damien Cook, Tyrone Peachey, Paul Vaughan and Angus Crichton.

Fittler settled on the 17-man squad on Sunday night after also considering Gold Coast forward Ryan James, Canberra winger Nick Cotric and Sydney Roosters playmaker Luke Keary.

The team will officially be announced at 6.40pm Monday at The Star.

The Blues take on Queensland at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on Wednesday week, desperate to end the Maroons’ decade-long domination.

South Sydney duo Crichton and Cook have reaped the rewards of the Rabbitohs’ 2018 form by being catapulted into the NSW side.

This is the future according to Freddy.

After a sluggish start to the season, Crichton has roared back to form and has won a spot on the bench for the June 6 match.

And his Rabbitohs teammate Cook has edged out St George Illawarra rival Cameron McInnes for the NSW hooking position.

Fittler will name just one specialist hooker after The Daily Telegraph revealed last week Peachey had won the interchange utility role.

Cook has been in stunning form this season in a rampant South Sydney side surging up the NRL competition ladder.

Sydney Roosters star Tedesco has retained the fullback spot ahead of Tom Trbojevic, who was named on the wing ahead of Cotric.

Tedesco’s form has been solid but he hasn’t done anything to warrant being dumped.

The Blues will go for all-out attack in the centres with the Roosters’ Mitchell and Brisbane speedster Roberts, providing he can pass a medical on Monday on an injured Achilles.

Melbourne flyer Josh Addo-Carr will be the other winger — his form and speed have been scintillating.

Penrith duo Maloney and Cleary have edged out Keary as Fittler’s preferred halves combination.

But it’s NSW’s stacked back row that has provided the most intrigue.

Cordner, Frizell and De Belin will form a new starting back row.

Klemmer, despite the Bulldogs’ poor form, was included for his trademark fire and aggression.

Cleary said he was ready for Origin despite having returned only a fortnight ago from a knee injury which kept him out for seven weeks.

“It’s been a whirlwind type of week. It’s been hard to avoid — Origin seems to be everywhere,” Cleary told ABC Grandstand.

“I will just and wait and if I get the phone call I will be forever grateful.”

Former NSW halfback and Immortal Andrew Johns was excited.

“I think it’s a really exciting time for NSW. There is going to be some big changes and a lot of young players who will come in and hopefully be at that level for the next ten years,’ Johns told The Sunday Footy Show.

“It’s also exciting for Queensland. Their champion superstars have retired so there will be some new faces in there and a lot of young faces who will make big names for themselves.”

The salary cap woes get worse for the Bulldogs with Sharon no longer a rep player. She's on overs + rep money and no other club will pay more than 400k for her now. Dogs will be paying half her salary to Newcastle.

Cotric will be a long-term origin player, no doubt

Graham's been hurt, so fair enough - I think he's terrific, and he'll be back - given his form Cordner is fortunate to still be on the left edge - Sims has been terrific, and unfortunately Graham hasn't played much

good that the rest are gone though, if the reports are true Fittler has used common sense, something previous selections haven't demonstrated

I never wanna see Graham in Blue again after Game II last year.

The missed tackle on Josh McGuire after shooting out of the line which led to QLDs 2nd try was horrible.

But the egregious and unnecessary strip on Napa deep in Qlds own half with 5 to go which led to their match winning try was egregious and unforgivable.

FFS! It's not about having one attribute over another, it's about selecting players that can do both. That's a representative player. No body questions Inglis and Chambers defence, because surprise, they can defend as well as be damaging with the ball. Centres who can't defend are found out, and centres who can't defend in origin will be slaughtered. Aitken is extremely capable with the ball. Everyone is looking at the NSW backline and thinking points. There's no starch there. I can't see any of them rolling up their sleeves to cop the punishment early in sets of 6 either. Cotric should be there. He plays wing albeit on the left, but is a natural right side player anyway. I love Tom T as a FB, but I don't see him being effective when the defensive line is set 10m away on tackle 2. There's no balance in that backline

Freddy has in-built 'outs' if he loses this series:

"This is my first series as Origin Coach"

"There were a lot of debutants in the side"

"The boys are still adjusting their combinations"

"The referees gave us no quarter" (Gallen's favourite)

"There are still a few things we need to work out"

"There were a lot of experienced players who couldn't make the side" (Cue Pearce recall for 2019)

And you ignore all he's done at club level?

Cordner has been poor, Graham injured - in reality that spot should be Sims' if form is the criteria

Given none of them have achieved anything at Origin, form should be right up there
