How many home games have the warriors taken away from go media stadium since 95

Is it one lol

Southern orcas don’t want to spread out too thinly trying to cover Wellington and the South Island

In the long run Wellington needs it own team and that’s the one that can play games in Hamilton or the other decent grounds that aren’t in Auckland or the South Island

They’ve pretty regularly taken a game a year away from Auckland haven’t they? At least recently. Last couple years they’ve gone to Wellington, Napier & Christchurch as the home team. Plus they play as home team at Magic which is a bit shit.

There’s also the Central Coast Warriors & Redcliffe Warriors years, but we’ll ignore those.

I agree with your point though, ideally there would be Wellington and Christchurch teams eventually. Whilst that might not happen for a long time if at all, trying to blend them in to one isn’t the way to go either.

2023 had Napier & Wellington as regular season home games I know for sure, plus Hamilton away. Pre-covid they used to take a game to Wellington occasionally from memory, but that could have been as away team.

Just had a look, excluding 2020-2022 for obvious reasons they’ve taken a home game elsewhere in NZ every year except 2018 for the last 10 years.

Home games in Wellington (a few times), Hamilton, New Plymouth, Napier & Christchurch. So they do their fair share.

Plus they’ve played as away team in Christchurch, Hamilton & Dunedin.

Some time's on the slaps I'll be lucky enough to win $100 from a $10 drop off. I'll tell me mates later though that I actually won $500. Cheers all round is given, how lucky I must be.

I get a feeling this Orcas bid is a bit the same. They most likely do have some serious cash investment but the amount they are telling people isn't likely what the actual numbers are. Makes for a good story though. Love the enthusiasm.

Aotearoa Orcas is a good name.
Based in ChCh with 9 games there, and 3 games in Wellington. Maybe a couple of Sydney teams could take games to Dunedin.

NZ Warriors based in Auckland,
10 games in Auckland, 1 in Hawkes Bay, 1 in Hamilton.
Would be ironic if ‘Aotearoa’ were the southern team, originally the term ‘Aotearoa’ referred to the North Island only

Will having a “New Zealand v Aotearoa” clash cause any cultural sensitivities though? Something along the lines of White NZ v Brown NZ or the like?

I understand they aren’t representative teams though.
Not really it’s just 2 languages for the same place. You do get a few people that take exception to NZ being called anything but NZ but common place for it to be called ‘Aotearoa New Zealand’- ironically Aotearoa is more common in the north.
Would be odd to have both names really, would prefer Northern and Southern but I suspect Warriors will just stick with ‘Warriors’ they don’t often use the ‘NZ’ part in their marketing/self reference etc.

The two names are never really put up against each other currently though are they?

Could Christchurch possibly be the home base to a Pasifika focused franchise?

Something like 9 games in Christchurch than annual games in Fiji, Samoa & Tonga (with facilities upgraded by the Australian and New Zealand tax payers to help curb Chinese influence in the pacific?
