Maybe RTS at fullback and Hoffman on the wing.

RTS is a fullback in the making, Locke's not bad & a fit Nightingale makes at least 3 for that position...

Hoffman will be better on the wing if he can impress, Vatuvai was typical but is a big game player

Our halves will be awesome, Leuluai will be good off the bench to cover Luke, Foran, Johnson

Our pack will DOMINATE...no matter who plays

Vatuvai is a massive risk for the kiwis, and they know it.

It's Well documented how fast he can lose a game for a team. With the calibre of wingers NZ have, it's stupid to play vatuvai.

The Kiwis have demolished the Cook Islands 50-0 in their only warm-up game before the Rugby League World Cup.

New Zealand hit the ground running in Doncaster, leading 24-0 at halftime with tries to Jason Nightingale, Elijah Taylor, Manu Vatuvei and Bryson Goodwin.

Nightingale and Goodwin completed doubles in the second half as the Kiwis ran in nine tries in total. Hooker Issac Luke was awarded man of the match.

"The guys are certainly better for a run," said the Kiwis coach Stephen Kearney. "There were parts of our game that were a bit rusty out there, but it was a good start for us.

"The improvement areas are in both defence and attack, to be fair, and given that some of the guys haven't played in six weeks it was a good performance, but our focus for this week is to improve both areas."

Kieran Foran, the Kiwis vice-captain, was brought into the team as a late replacement for Thomas Leuluai, who rested a groin strain. Foran was due to sit this match out, along with other Kiwi players who were involved in the NRL grand final, but instead combined in the halves with Shaun Johnson for just the second time, following April's test against the Kangaroos in Canberra.

Johnson's pace was on show as he scored from 60m in the second half.
The Kiwis bench for this game - which wasn't an official test match - was extended before kick-off with the inclusion of Roger Tuivasa-Sheck. He got to wear the Kiwis jersey for the first time, playing 10mins at the end.

Before the match, the Kiwis delivered a new haka, led by Luke. Called Te Iwi Kiwi, the haka was created by members of the Kiwi team along with a cultural advisor.

The Kiwis open their tournament against Samoa next Monday morning.

Kiwis 50 (Bryson Goodwin 2, Jason Nightingale 2, Shaun Johnson, Elijah Taylor, Manu Vatuvei, Kevin Locke tries. Penalty try. Johnson 4, Goodwin 2, Locke 1 goals). Cook Islands 0

Not a bad crowd of just under 4,500...wonder why we we can get tv coverage of a Kiwis warm up match half way around the world but nothing for England vs Italy?

Glad we got the first warm-up game out of the way so that we can get onto the pressing issue of dropping Manu ASAP.

I guess because Sky Sports have the rights to England games outside of major tournaments and are still sulking about losing out on the WC coverage so chose not to broadcast it, whereas Premier Sports are free to show international matches of other countries.

It's a shame RTS didn't play a full season at fullback for the Roosters, as he probably would have been first pick for the test #1 jumper. His wing form was obviously fantastic, and would have to have him equal first pick on the wing with Nightengale. That said, Hoffmans wing play for the Broncs was very good as well....having those 3 wingers with the skill to cover fullback is a massive advantage.

Was I watching the same game as some of you blokes? Thought Hoffman was solid and far better than Locke. Locke was pretty crap considering the opposition I reckon.

I don't really see Hoffman as a FB. RTS needs to be in the final 17 at FB with probably Manu and Hoffman on the edges.

I think maybe Kearney should consider playing Hoffman at FB on defence & play RTS at FB on attack. I really do not trust Vatuvei in a kiwis jersey especially in a tight contest.

Why is that??

He's played about 15-20 tests most of which against Australia and England and he's never cost us a game before.

I just don't get the angst over Vatuvei being on the wing... He's never ever let us down at test level before.

In fact he's actually been a massive contributor to our biggest victories.

If anything... You could say he's tried and tested at this level.... Something RTS and Hoffman aren't.
