Not surprisingly, Spida's fate has become the soap opera of choice for this trade week.

Hawthorn & Sydney are caught in a Mexican standoff, with St Kilda and possibly one other club dancing around the edges.

Unfortunately for Hawthorn, Sydney are not the Kangaroos, and I expect that Spida will take his chances throught the PSD.

I also predict that Brett Thornton will stay put at Carlton.

Well, the Hound puppies have officially traded for McDoogie-Howser!

They're giving up picks 2 & 4 in the draft for him.

Lets hope he can turn his career around in the East.

I hate giving up draft picks, it feels like giving away cash & I have never found a reason where thats a good thing. And I cant say this trade really floats my boat.

As long as you don't give away your first rounders, its usually not so bad, Cupid.

In further news:

Tarrant to Fremantle for Medhurst + Pick 8

Polak to Richmond (with pick 13 & 63) for picks 8 & 42.

Good get for Richmond I feel.

I know Polak has done bugger all, but he still carries upside and he may well benefit from a change of scene. Well worth the punt.

Interesting one for the Pies. I would've liked Medhurst at Hawthorn, but I'm not sure he brings a lot to the Collingwood make-up. I think Collingwood are hoping like buggery that Joel Selwood is still around at pick 8.

Colligwood has hit the jackpot with that one. There is no way Tarrant is worth a first rounder and a player! Plus why Freo? West Coast surely would be a better option!

Gardiner's come to his senses. Off to St Kilda.

Looking at the number's i'd say St Kilda has given up a rd rounder for Gardiner and a 4th rounder.

Given their boozy culture?

Personally I think Gardiner is too good a fit for Saints.

What's going to happen the minute he gets out on the piss with Gherig and Lawrence? (I am aware the latter doesn't play there anymore, but Fraser still gets in trouble with him)

Spida gone for pick 33.

Trade Tracker says Dean Solomon's off to play WAFL and hit the nightclubs around Fremantle with Tarrant.

Swap of 3rd and 4th rounders involved.

Collingwood picks up Medhurst and pick 8 for Tarrant. Add in #10 and we're looking good.

They'll be eyeing off a Selwood & Jetta top ten combo.

Apparently that one went through with 90 seconds on the clock.

Hawthorn had been clinging to hopes of a Everitt + pick 56 for picks 33 & 49 trade, and would almost surely have got that had St Kilda not swooped on Gardiner a couple of hours earlier.

It was all elementary anyway, as Carlton refused to budge on Thornton, effectively rendering picks 49 & 56 redundant to Hawthorn anyway. I don't think they were intending on having a pick outside of 6, 24 & 40 (would have used 49 or 56, had 24 been needed with 33 to get Thornton) at this draft, but now they'll have to cut someone extra to run with 33.

I can understand Carlton clinging to Thornton (he's important to their structure), but they have a big job talking him around before the PSD.
