Yeah but when does North QLD stop being north, where's this vague borderline where its starts, at least Sunshine State Dolphins has Queensland as a whole to represent, almost like the New Zealand Warriors or Wests Tigers, like where is Wests?
Just leave it bro...
Your on your Post Malone here.
You do realise our number plates literally say Sunshine State, which means QLD..
The QLD team is the maroons.

The QLD team is the maroons.
Maroons are State of origin, not clubland..
Golden state warriors in California works there, not sure why it couldnt work here..
I mean if this was the USA, the state of California is more like Queensland, than any other of the 49 states, Melbourne is more like chicago, and Sydney is more the tri state area, having a team representing oakland and sanfran, under one banner works, they even had san diego involvedScreenshot_20211014-214409_Samsung Internet.jpg

Who's Malone? and what is its reference

Post Malone/Pat Malone/Alone. Your by yourself with this shit you post page after page.

And ask anyone from LA/California, they will tell you it's pretty dumb, and even further they will tell you it was a failed experiment- they were meant to play games from the Bay to San Diego, but never stuck to it. And they haven't changed the name.

You probably think this is ok

Yes, Yes, Yes.

There are 3 other clubs in the Sunshine State. Would be like Manly calling themselves the New South Wales Sea Eagles.

Queensland isn't California. It's Florida. Inbreeding, crocodiles and an education system 10 years behind the rest of the country.

South Queensland is the least worst geographic name. "Sunshine state" is idiotic. No team should pretend to represent the whole state. The broader and more generic the name the less meaningful it is.

You can stop speculating, they aren’t changing it. ‘The Dolphins’ it is! Hope they didnt pay the marketing company much for this stroke of genius lol

It had been rumoured elsewhere that the NRL were also keen to have a team with Brisbane in the name to help promote and build the rivalry with the Brisbane Broncos.

“What we presented to the NRL, you can imagine the submission was very detailed and the criteria was very detailed,” Reader explained.

“Obviously attracting fans and making sure we can bring a younger demographic in was all parts we had to address.

“We worked with a branding company to come up with a new brand being ‘The Dolphins’ which we thought had appeal and still salutes our history."

Read explained that Redcliffe will act as a similar base to the Dolphins as Red Hill does for the Broncos, allowing the club to maintain its roots in Redcliffe.

“Redcliffe to us will be what Red Hill is to the Broncos, it’s our base, it’s where our club and our facilities are, but we’re a lot more than Redcliffe and we’ll appeal to a lot bigger region," Read said.

We presented as ‘The Dolphins’ and that’s how intend to do it.

'The Dolphins' fair dinkum.
Screwing up expansion is more Rugby League than turf-humping.
Next they'll announce a team for WA but it'll be located in Kalgoorlie because that's where the leagues club is.

As for comparisons to the US, Sydney is LA, Melbourne is New York City, and Queensland is Alabama.
New York and Sydney are both the business capitals of their countries and both have famous bridges and celebrated architecture. Melbourne is full of old money like Boston.

The NRL is already salivating at the prospect of kicking off the 2023 season with a Dolphins-Broncos blockbuster, but the league’s newest team hopes to instead play the Roosters first-up for the Arthur Beetson Cup.

NRL CEO Andrew Abdo has indicated the code’s latest local derby, which will generate huge interest when former Broncos coach Wayne Bennett officially joins the Dolphins, is the ideal way to begin round one.

While the Dolphins, grateful to have been granted the game’s 17th licence, won’t quibble about the draw, their preference is for the Roosters to be their first opponent. The clubs have a shared history through the late, great Arthur Beetson, the rugby league Immortal who began and finished his football in Redcliffe. In between times, Beetson became a giant of the game during a storied stint for Eastern Suburbs.
Dolphins officials discussed Beetson’s Redcliffe-Roosters links during the pitching process to the NRL and their desire for the teams to play for the trophy in Beetson’s honour. They also stated their preference to play against the tri-colours first to honour the great prop’s legacy.

Roosters chairman Nick Politis, who backed the expansion of the game in Queensland, said the proposal has merit.
“For sure, we’d love to look at that,” Politis said.
“It’s early days, but we’re open to any good ideas. Why not? It’s good for everybody, it’s good for the game.”
Dolphins chief executive Terry Reader said the club had consulted with the Beetson family about the potential initiatives.

“We had detail around that in our submission [to the NRL],” Reader said.
“One thing a lot of people don’t know, Arthur Beetson was part of our first-ever premiership that the Redcliffe Dolphins won in the BRL [Brisbane Rugby League] comp.
“In 1965 he was a skinny centre and he went on to be one of the greatest, an Immortal of the game. He came back to captain-coach in 1981 after the 1980 Origin.
“He did write in his book that it was his dream before he died to see the Dolphins play the Roosters in the NRL.
“How wonderful now that we will be able to make that happen for him and especially for his family. That’s something we pitched, we had conversations during the bid process with the Roosters that we’d love to talk about how we do something with them, whether it be the Arthur Beetson Cup or something like that.

“His family is really excited by that. That is one thing the Dolphins will represent for the game, we have a great story to tell.
“Not to rain on the parade of playing the Broncos, let’s build up to that.

“Everyone is going to be excited because we’re going to have a genuine derby here in Brisbane. We’ll have an old BRL side coming up against the biggest club in the NRL, it’s going to be a wonderful story and the narrative that can be written around it.
“You only have to look at what happens in every code, the derbies are the biggest games. We’d like to think we could have two sellouts there.”

The Dolphins are full of admiration for the Roosters on another level. Asked if there was a club that represented a model for the newbies to aspire to, Reader pointed to the Bondi Junction outfit.
“If you have the right structures and the right processes in place, people can succeed,” Reader said.

“The Roosters are a wonderful example of that. They lost almost two-thirds of their starting squad this year, they had all of that salary cap sitting on the bench. Yet everyone they brought up, because of the structures and the coaching they have in place, came in and did the job.
“It was next man up and it was wonderful to watch. Anyone would be impressed by that and if you can emulate something like that, you’d be in a really good position.”

Any way to honour Big Arty, is a great idea, without him State of Origin doesnt exist

I hated the Dolphins getting picked at first, but it is actually growing on me now. I think it might be a statement by the ARLC for how they want all of the clubs to look...

A club that embraces its suburban identity for training and some games, but the majority are based out of the big, centra stadiums to draw big crowds. I reckon (if Suncorp works well for the Dolphins) the ARLC will point to it as proof that Sydney clubs should be doing the same.

I actually like what they have done with the branding as well; maintain a mostly Red-White jumper with some tinges of Gold to differentate from the dragons and give them something to play with in the merch.

And the official name ("The Dolphins") i think will actually be fine. They will keep the coloquial name of Redcliffe even if it isnt on the badge (and fans might start to use something else, like "Norths").

If we are desperate to have more on the badge than just the name, I would put a big "1947 Dolphines" to really claim all of the BRL as legit history (should definitely also claim all 5 BRL premierships in their NRL tally!!)
