Well. Having given it some thought. I'm going to say because it's a Victorian show?

The show only existed because of Barrie Cassidy. It was his idea. It was his plaything til he wasn't able to do it anymore, and is now palmed off for Whateley to host. Whateley and Cassidy are mates that have common interest mainly in AFL and horses. That's how the show is skewed towards.

I'll say that the show maybe does enough to pass off for national broadcast? It's no skin off the nose of ABC management to keep it going the way it is? It's cheap, established. It's on a Sunday morning. It's no big deal to bother changing it.

To get the show you guys want, or one where its 50/50ish AFL/NRL. The show would have to be replaced with ABC Grandstand TV. I do remember ABC24 having it as a dedicated show, that is now lumped onto the news program? Peter Wilkins was hosting? From what I vaguely remember, there's a 50/50 reasonable split. Even when The Drum had dedicated to sport on the Fridays, both the leading codes would get fair amount off attention.

So I'll stick with saying that it's because it's Cassidy's idea. It was not a designated national sports show. But could pass off as one.

The Insiders show before it also hosted by Cassidy and doesn't spend the majority of the show talking about Victorian State politics....

One of the most watched and supported Australian National teams is in the UK preparing for a major tournament that starts next week but not even a mention....

ABC is a publicly taxpayer funded organisation via the Federal Govt , a national broadcaster.

It should as part of its charter reflect that, in its broadcasting to a nation audience .A national audience with differing sporting preferences .One of which is the NRL,dominant in two of the major states in this country and played in all mainland cities.

To ignore the major event of the NRL calendar ,the Grand Final and particularly as it involved a team from Victoria, exhibits a bias ,which defies reasoning. It should not matter one iota, whether the sporting program is broadcast from Melbourne or Adelaide.
The ABC has been accused many times of political bias, you can add sporting to that list.

Cassidy doesn't care about state politics. Insiders is all about Federal poltics.

I'm not sure 4 nations has the clout to be mentioned on today's show. When it's questionable that mainstream NSW/QLDers care. On a small show and the comp starts the following weekend. The biggest event in Australia this weekend was at Phillip Island, it didn't get a mention. How are they going to talk about 4N with any substance? Waleed maybe if he had a sock puppet?

The Sydney Seven and Nine 6pm news both had stories tonight of the team training in the UK..also was a much longer and prominent story than Philip Island GP race which lasted a few seconds and comprised of showing the winner crossing the line and highlighting a big crash in one of the earlier races...

Don't understand why you think the interest in the 4 nations is "questionable"...

You obviously don't live in Sydney

Also Underwood was running the Offsiders today- why couldn't she have mentioned it? She has commented on RL plenty of times on the Back Page

She only comments on the NRL on the Back Page so she can segway to something about the AFL no matter how little it has to do with the initial story.

Yeah. There would be a story on the team training in England. The competition is more relevant to fans living in NSW/QLD. But Offsiders is a Victorian slanted show, for no other reason than Victorians produce and mainly participate in the show.

You don't understand why interest in 4n is questionable? Generally speaking, even you guys up there in NSW/QLD don't care about it. There's bigger commitment to the NRL & SoO than international rl. Therefore it's not going to gain similar traction in the rest of the country.

I said in the other post I was from Melbourne.

A can't comment on Underwood on TBP, since I don't watch it.

No interest in international rugby league? Last weeks sold out test in Perth was the number one program on FTA in Australia, rating 850k in metros and peaked at 1.7 million nationally. Offsiders spoke about it for less than 30 seconds. By comparison, the bledisloe cup last night rated 414k in metros and another 178k on fox and Offsiders dedicated a lot more time to it than they did rugby league last week in the exact same circumstances. Victorians are an insecure bunch, their little game is threatened by rugby league and so anything that challenges their demented obedience to it is either ignored or derided.

The bloke is clearly a trolling Victorian who thinks that what happens in Melbourne is like what happens in the rest of the country...

Think we are wasting our time here..

Moto GP is clearly the most important sport because it is on in Victoriania

As for the show, not sure how long it's been going but it's been good enough to garner approximately 30 seconds of my viewing in the whole time it's existed. That 30 odd seconds was more than enough.

The ratings mean jack ****. It was just a practice game. What are they going to talk about with any depth? The bledisloe Cup game at least is a match of some value.

The game was so unimportant. It was farmed off to Perth. Sports fans from Perth are so grateful for any national game, they even went to that. Even the half AFL/Gaelic football gets a good crowd from there, when fans from Melbourne and other footy cities don't GAF.

You can't sit there and piss and moan about the lack of attention RL gets on that show. Then not GAF that motogp didn't get a mention, when it's something a national broadcaster would be expected to mention. Motogp is a bigger comp, a bigger industry, bigger worldwide presence than NRL/ESL/4N put together. It was actually happening in Australia ON THE DAY of the show. It did not get a mention.
