Old Farts Memories & Discussions

I see comment on Red Roosters buying Big Rooster. I can confirm Big Rooster still exists in the Toowoomba area and people rave about it.

In other news I came in to check if I am old enough for membership of this thread, sadly it seems not as I just want to talk about the 80s and 90s.
What? That's crazy man. Most blokes on here cut their teeth bopping away in the 80's-90's.
Anyway it's a memories thread and as with music, if your memories were the earlier 2000's then it's hats off to you, ya kids are probably calling you an old fart blockers. :)
I'm in my late sixties and still chill out listening to The Cure, Blur, HCP's, Leichhardt Oval etc etc.

Harrys Cafe De Wheels, the original one is at Woolloomooloo but lots of franchises popping up around Sydney now, have one down the road from where i live at Tempe. Usually get a hot dog with mushy peas and cheese sauce and tomato sauce when i go. Was at the Woolloomooloo one about a month ago and they had chicken hot dogs, quite nice with the mushy peas.

and of course this is my favourite photo on the wall there when i visit the Woolloomooloo shop.

A franchise now. Wow!
I remember pulling into the first one at Woolloomooloo when I just got my licence. I was so peeved off when I spilt the pie all over the mattress in the back of my HT panel van. It must have looked suss the next day. I wonder if mum saw it :)

My music tastes range from the 60 s all the way till now but the 60 s and especially the 70 s and 80 s are the most revalant to me. If i go to a retro dance party or theme night i want to hear music especially from 1975- 1984, so many danceable songs and memories. Most retro nights now even though they play 70 s and 80 s concentrate on the 90 s and 2000's which i suppose you can say is retro now to.

John Sattler left, Bob MaCarthy right and who is in the middle?
He was a great Indigenous Fullback and played his whole career at South Sydney with whom he won four premierships with and was top points scorer for four consecutive years.
Fabulous photo. The souths pack of the late 60’s-early 70’s was extraordinary.Manly & the rorters won comps in the 70’s due to raiding the phenomenal souths team.Lurch O’Neill & Coote were influential in their respective teams winning comps & Bobby Macca raised the standards & transformed the dogs from also-rans to a strong club

Right with your first guess mate.
Awesome photo hey. It was a common scene seeing players beat their feet on the pavement in those days.
Back in the late 60 s and early 70 s we would visit family friends who lived in Chifley, their next door neighbour was Eric Simms so used to see him a bit when we went over for BBQs, seemed a nice bloke even though i was young, remember going for a ride on a bike with him ( and the other kids of our family friends ) through the bush at the end of the street. Used to give my father a bit of stick about supporting Easts but it was all good nature'd and back then easts were a bit ordinary.

When the Balmain Tigers no names beat the internationals South Sydney in 1969, it was the start of a long love affair for people like me. It sounds like there're a few mad Tigers supporters on the forum.

I lived in Paddington till the end of 1970, just a block away from the old Sports Ground and i can remember when the Tigers beat Souths in the 1969 Grand Final as there was Tiger paw prints painted on the foot path of Driver Avenue which i used to see when we took our dog for a walk down to Moore Park and around the Kippax Lake pond.

Ah Kippax Lake. I remember reading somewhere that the biggest six ever recorded was at the SCG when Dougie Walters, off a long hop, hit the ball straight over the top of the old members stand and it landed in the lake. Is that true?
