For the older farts that can remember back 60 odd years ago. This is a scan I took of the original post card which was my reference for the painting.

Just for fun and to make it more difficult I added in quite a few more people on the walkway. Also added Port Hacking and the National Park.

I guess the old house on the point is long gone now. I remember the surf mat hire thingy near the clubhouse. That is why I included the kid with the mat just near the bottom of the piece.

Question: In the postcard pic there are the circular steps heading north , are they still there.

I didn't realise that there was such a huge space between both pools and I had trouble remembering that there was curvature in the run of the path between the Ballroom and North Cronulla.. That was until I dug up and old 1955 photo which clarified my diluted memory.

Life is pretty cool though when you think about it. 1955 or even 1965 my parents weren't born(and even then didn't live around this area). These photos, memories etc have great meaning to you. We have become mates online. Now I take my kids down to that same beach at worst once a week for nippers who enjoy those same waves. Hopefully my kids will get to say the same thing about their kids there.

Getting older is a privilege. It will all keep spinning without us. The Sharkies will hopefully still win games. Ask Frenz and I mean that in the most respectful way. I drove past his childhood home just a few days ago. Enjoy the day! Tell someone you love em or tell them to go and get f**ked 😆

Anyway watch this f**king Alien spaceship kill us all in November!

I had this kind of experience this week.
I started a new job about 3 weeks ago in an area that had a lot to do with my youth, Footy, Cricket, apprenticeship.
I saw on the roster a girl with the surname it was the same as a fella that I started my apprenticeship at the same time together, and he had lived in the area. He had sin e moved a little bit away.
I finally got a shift with her this week and asked if her dad was from the area. He was she said, what is his name? Yep it was him.
After joking about our past and her texting him I remembered that I had also contracted to his company from 2004-06 and asked, when was she born? she said 2006, I said who was in 2004? Her sister.
I said I remember the days when both you and your sister were born as I had to fill in for your dad on both occasions on those days.
It was pretty cool.

Mental man. I just went back and remembered a few things from where I was in the 05 gf and had some oh shit moments myself.

20 years ago life was gold. I reckon I will hopefully say the same in another 20.

Nor do I.

But I do feel sorry for other sports, like netball, where there is genuine grass roots support but they don't have the big dollars generated from the male counterparts to sink into promotion.

I think Toby should transition and play for our women's team , game on roosters Broncos.

This reminds me of a funny story.

I was working at Norths Leagues back in the early 90s
One Sunday evening I was walking around clearing tables and picking up glasses and I noticed a woman in an Adidas track suit. Black bottoms with white stripes, and the reverse for the top.

We had strict dress regulations and track suits were not permitted.
So I walked up to her and apologised before saying she is not permitted in the club and would have to leave.
She seemed confused, but accepted it and got up to leave.

So I went back about my work until a short time later when a manager pulled me aside and asked “Did you ask the NZ Netball team to leave the club?”.

I said “Huh?”

She said “You told a woman in a track suit she had to leave”.

Then it dawned one me - as I was getting ready for work that afternoon I had had ABC TV on in the background, and they were showing the netball, Australia vs NZ.

Poor NZ Netball team. Not only did they lose, they got booted out of their after-match dinner.

Oops…

Done it - completed but it is a shit photo. I've titled this - Big Swell, Sunny Day, Cronulla 1965. Psssts it is not historically correct !!! I have slipped in a bloke running wearing an original 1967 Jersey. When you paint you can do things like that.

Being a child of the Sutherland Shire I spent a lot of time with great mates down at Cronulla Beach. It was a wonderful place to have fun and enjoy the surf.

My painting depicts Cronulla from around the year of 1965 when I was but a 10 year old pup. My main reference piece for this painting was an old post card I had acquired years ago plus some additional artistic licence.

One of our favourite experiences was to go over the back of the large rock pool and ride the backwash wave out and into the incoming breaker. We never did it when the waves were as big as in the painting of course.

With every train (known as red rattlers) that terminated at Cronulla before returning back to the city, you would witness a mass migration of beach goers heading north along the promenade. Their destination, the northern beaches, North Cronulla, Elouera and Wanda. It was always an enjoyable experience watching the passing parade.

'Big Swell, Sunny Day, Cronulla 1965' is framed, acrylic on canvas, a large painting 88cm x 58cm.

Heathens I am filthy rich, 'me' masterpiece sold today. I have a new artistic benefactor. This means I can now put chicken in with me rice.

'Big Swell, Sunny Day, Cronulla 1965' has found a new home.
